oil problem

I have an 88 n/a and i was wondering if it is possible that oil can leak into the engine after you turn it off. I just replaced my oil cooler lines with some racing beat ones and that stopped the leak onto the ground but im still losing oil kinda fast, i know that oil is injected into the engine to lubricate the seals but it smokes (until its warmed up) after its been sittin for a couple hours like its burnin off excess oil sittin in the engine.

The oil can be getting past the oil control rings on the rotor.

Have you smelled the smoke? Is it actually smoke from burning oil or just steam? It is still winter, after all...

No insult or belittlement intended, btw. The typical n00b in here has seldom even picked up a wrench, never mind thought to check out the little things like this.

Well when its been sittin for a couple hours and i start it up and drive without letting it warm up it can leave thick white smoke in clouds for around 2 min depending on how much gas i give it (i never push it over 3000 when its not warmed up). The smoke doesnt smell like normal exhaust it has a stronger stench to it.

So it doesn't smell like gas and it doesn't smell like coolant...

There aren't many other fluids in/near the motor to consider...

this is exactly what i dont understand the motor runs strong and it only smokes if its been sitting but after running it for a min or letting it warm up it doesnt smoke, so it just seemed as if oil was leaking into the engine after i shut it off.

It can run strong and still have oil getting past the oil control rings. Oil will have a bluish tint to it. Black smoke is gas from running rich and white is from coolant and usually smells just like antifreeze. There is nothing you can replace besides the oil rings them self. This is like replacing a piston ring. requires engine removal, teardown and rebuild.

The only other way oil gets into the combustion chamber is from the oil injection system but that doesn't pump oil when the car is off. When its on, it doesn't inject enough oil to cause smoke.

Thats why i wondered if it could be leaking when i shut it off. Your probably right about the seals.

Hey, Haven, when your oil cooler lines were leaking, was the whole bottom side of your oil pan covered in oil??? Mine is leaking, and unfortunately i don't have a jack right now. But I did notice the whole underside of the oil pan totally covered in oil.

Thanks in advance
