Exclamation Oil presure neddled out all the way up!?!

I wrencked the car as I have said before. I went to turn it on to see if it still works or not and when I turned the key to the on position the oil presure guage went ALL the way up. The engine still works though. Any ideas what this is/whats causing it?

There is either a:

Bad sending unit
Blockage in oil passages AFTER the oil pump.

I wouldnt run the engine.

Tap on the sender, maybe remove, clean/WHACK it, and reinstall it.

Then retry.

Have you done any on the front cover?
Is the oil filter okay?

Doe the oil look strange?

Son of a B#$@&!!!!
Sorry I didn't even think of the oil filter! I just looked at it and one side got crushed in the accident by the little metal thing next to the brake fluid resivoir. I guess thats the reason for the high presure? Thanx for slapping me in the face with that one. Is there anything else I should look at?

Take it one step at a time!

Just replace the filter first.

A dead short to ground on the sending units single wire. The sending unit is that round toad stool just below the oil filter. The wire goes on the outboard end of the sending unit.

yeah, I heard of a guy who had no oil pressure for like a long long time (not an RX-7) and the car didn't break down.. somehow (don't ask me how, even the mechanic didn't believe him) he drove almost a thousand miles like that and no problems. Ended up being a clogged oil filter I guess, so he didn't get any oil pressure throughout the whole system or something.. stupid

lol

I know someone who drove thier Nissan Sentra 1500 miles until I looked in thier engine bay and told them that thier car was running like @(*$ because the belt for thier alternator and water pump were gone, the radiator was empty, and thier were 20 oil leaks coming from different parts of the engine, as well as the air filter was so clogged you couldn't ever clean it.

Car still ran after that beating...makes me laugh.
