Sounds bad, don't drive

Not in any order:
oil leaks
thermo pellet
oil lines/hoses
oil level and filter
oil pump
gauge broken
sender broken
oil cooler
oil cooler bypass valve
engine oil pressure regulator
electrical connection corrosion

Do all the visual stuff first and then start replacing the cheap stuff.

First of all, how quickly is it moving? i mean, isn't it normal for oil pressure to stay between the bottom and the top line (30-60psi?) you're going to have higher oil pressure if you increase RPMs, naturally, right?

I am having some similar problems myself (Only the pressure stays low, increases slightly as rpm's increase, and is only around 10psi) Please excuse my ignorance, but what does the thermal pellet do and how accessible is it? I have checked the bypass valves and pump, and they seem to be in working order. The symptoms suggest that the pressure sender works (I am getting some signal)
Thanks
Anthony

oil filter
oil pressure sending unit
oil pressure guage
all the electrical connections inbetween.

It is designed to fail so that you buy a new Mazda Gotta love when the sales and engineering departments swap employees.

Typically if the oil pressure goes down when RPMs go up, you have a front cover O ring failure, or bad quality oil that has lost it viscosity.

If the oil pressure is down all the time (about 15-20lbs) regardless of RPM, its generally the ecentric shaft pellet/valve.

only 10 psi? isn't that low oil pressure kinda residing in blow-up-your-engine-ville?

That's why the car is in the garage in pieces... trust me, I took it real slow on the way home (probably shouldn't have driven it at all) Thanks for the post of links, they were really helpful. Hopefully it is just the sender.

Yeah I hate that stupid stock gauge. I ended up buying an autometer one one ebay for $25. Turns out my oil pressure is perfect. That damn gauge kept freakin me out. Just disconect it and get an AM one. Its deffinetly worth $20-40.

ok up date again, i have removed the front cover, which O ring is prone to failure here (or are we talkin the front plate for the first rotor? also the chain drive for the oil pump is fine, as well as the sprocket.. and yes its cheap oil in there and flooded to **** as well so its probably lost its viscosity but that doesnt solve my NO oil pressure ordeal. im going to swap out the E shaft pellet with a spare i have and see if that helps.

AHA!

I think I have narrowed down the problem to... U guessed it the front cover O-Ring, or lack there of. with no Oring being in place it will probably blow out almost ALL pressure into the front housing. So now I have to figure out where I am going to get the teflon ring and gasket etc..

If your .sig is right, and you do have a 1988 model, all you need is the o-ring - no teflon plastic ring, no gasket
