Question oil pressure trouble

My oil pressure read near 0 at idle and never gets above 60 and usually stay around 30 when cruising. I've heard that this is very low for my s4 na, but i still burn alot of oil so i think my OMP still works fine, I am full of oil and its got a new filter but nothing seems to bring the pressure up. My engine runs great, and has perfect compression. Once or twice i've heard it beep becuase of low oil pressure after it idled for a very long time but this has not happened recently. Is it normal for the pressure sensor of gauge to go bad? or is it more likely a problem with the oil system?

Check the sender...It might be the sender or the gauge, so verify it with a mechanical gauge before you assume the pressure is bad.

If it is, this is classic behaviour of one of two problems:

1. The oil thermo bypass has stuck, and is allowing oil pressure to bleed out the front of the eccentric shaft.

2. The o-ring between the front cover and front iron has let go, which is causing oil to leak between the front cover and front iron, directly into the pan.

Either way, the front cover needs to come off and the problem needs to be fixed NOW before you do serious engine damage.

how much is a mechanical gauge and how would i install it? I really want to find out what the problem is but like i said the pressure has been like this since i got the car and compression is poerfect and its the fastest stock port NA i've seen in a while so i don't think its hurting the motor too much so hopefully its the
gauge

I bought a SunPro mechanical gauge some time ago for maybe fifteen bucks. It had an assorment of fittings with it, one of which actually screwed into the original sender hole.

I found that out after I drilled and tapped a hole in the rear oil hose banjo bolt and installed it there. Either place works just fine. Racing Beat sells an adapter that mounts below the oil filter. Not worth the money just to check oil pressure though. Drilling a hole and tapping it in the banjo bolt works just fine. Second best thing to do outside of just screwing it into the original hole with the adapter fitting. Please don't ask me for NPT threads size for the hole. I forgot and don't wanna go looking. Maybe a 1/8 NPT thread, by memory.
