oil pressure sending unit

i was looking in the fsm and i cannot find how to test the oil pressure sending unit. i'm trying to get a reading on the gauge on my 10AE and this is the third sending unit that i've tried. the original one maxed out the gauge. the second and third put no reading on the gauge. i want to start testing the sending units before i waste the 15 minutes it takes to remove the old sending unit install the new one. any help would be most appreciated.

Is the resistor grounded? There's a small square black resistor/diode/somethignerother that should be bolted to or near the slave. Theres' on under the trailing coil packs also (not for the gauge, but so you know what you're looking for)

If its not grounded, you'll never get the gauge working.

i'm not sure. it should be because i just installed the engine last summer and less than 300 miles ago. i'll check that area and post back. as stated in teh original post, the original sender would cause the gauge to max out.... strange..

Last time my car did that it was cause the alternator went bum and was overcharging my car, you might want to check into that, you might be frying something, the 10th ans are turbo right? that would mean you dont have a voltmeter, you might want to get one or have your alternator checked

ok, i went to the garage and checked it. its bolted straight to one of the inspection plate bolts(left bolt) and the connector is connected tightly.

i dont think that the alternator is overcharging, as it has never given me any problems. i will however check it to eliminate it as a possible suspect.

to answer your question, yes the 10AE is turbocharged. it uses the same drivetrain as the S4 TII.

The FSM ELECTRICAL section shows how to check out the gauge. It sounds like the gauge is corrupt if you tried three other senders.
