Oil Pressure question

Hey guys, I'm running a s5 n/a engine and my stock oil pressure gauge reads about 28psi at idle(just under the 30 mark) and around 50 at 3000 rpm(defiantly not 45 but barely touching the bottom of the number 60)
I'm running 20w50 and while accelerating I'm seeing around 45.
Any thoughts?
I have not installed a aftermarket gauge but do these numbers sound appropriate? I remember some years ago at 3000 it was 60; but many things have changed since then and the car spent alot of time parked.
thanks

Your fine. If you had a problem with the front cover oil seal or other issues you would not see above 15 at idle or at 4k rpm.

I used to run 20-50. I now run 10-30 or 5-30. 20-50 Just didnt act right in my car

Well when i had bad oil control rings i had 20-50 and the engine spit it out. 20-50 Might be good for hot weather and a good engine.. But i just think its to thick. Cold starts might have more bearing wear in the long run.

DREYKO, no need to worry about the pressure readings you're seeing. When you get the chance, check your oil pressure with a mechanical or aftermarket gauge.

I and many others will advise that you should never use anything thinner than 10-W30 in your 13B.

^+1

it seems like your pressure is about right with the stock gauge. The only time you should be worried is when you have zero pressure at all.

When I first got my FC I did an old change and put in something like 5-20 or something along those lines (7years back) and noticed that after 2days, all my oil was all burnt up and none left in the engine. I started used Delo 40. My car has been running awesome since then.

yup the stock gauge is like that, i actually cleaned up the sensor with a wirebrush and put a new connector end in and it seemed to react better when the engine was underload. then again i did add a newer oil sending unit

it could also be a symptom of the thermal pellet failing. with a working pellet and gauge, the oil pressure is low (45ish@3000rpm), but once the pellet closes oil pressure comes up to 70psi.

so put a gauge on it, warm it up and see what it does. if you're not seeing 60+ with the car warmed up there is a problem.

uh, what? 60+ psi at what rpm? not at idle I hope. I and others (na anyway) run around 30psi at idle when warmed up on 10 w40. maybe like 35 on 20 w50 when it gets fully warmed. I think you may have mis said something or a lot of people are having problems they didn't know about? like me.

70 psi? I dont think so. This would not be a normal oil pressure

oh sorry, yeah it should be 60+ over 2500-3000rpm. a lot of people assume they have bad or inaccurate senders, which some do, but if the thermal pellet is bad, or the front cover o ring is blown, it'll give the same symptom
