oil pressure gauge problem
hey guys, the 90 gtu is having a problem with the oil pressure guage, ill start the car and it'll blip up, then return down as if no pressure and stay there no matter where i rev the motor. there is oil (at full) in the oil pan, how can i check to see if the omp is working? what else could it be? i would really rather not have the motor give out so until i find the problem i think ill start running premix to make sure oil is still getting in there. Any other ideas what it could be if not that? thanks (btw my net is screwing up so if it is in a easy search sorry)

...94% correct.
On the driver's side of the motor, under neath the temp sensor under the oil filter tower, you'll find the oil-pressure sensor. Unscrew it and look in the general vacinity with a flashlight while someone cranks the car (pull the EFI fuse, first). Oil should squirt out. If it doesn't, bad pump or sump. If oil DOES squirt, then get a petroleum safe pressure gauge and check the actual pressure, or you can cough up the cash for an aftermarket guage for constant readings.
My stock oil PSI guage never was worth a poop.

DOnt worry too much, ALL of my stock gauges have crapped out already, your not the only one. I warn you however that if you get an aftermarket guage it most likely wont fit in the stock location and youll have to shell out extra cash for a oil filter pedestal or make some type of custom fitting.

Most likely, the wire that connects to the sender is dirty and making poor contact. That seems to be about 90% of "oil pressure problems" that I see. The wire gets covered in oil from the filter area, then crud gets into the picture, and soon the entire area is a goopy mess. The electrical connectors for both the oil pressure and water temp sensors are VERY poorly designed, and are prone to loosening up, corroding, or just generally failing.

when i thought mine wasnt working the shitty mechanic i had, told me it was the gauge.....but it wasnt and i spun a bearing so you better make sure there really is pressure there

OK, cleaned the wires, still won't pressure up. Any hints for pulling out the sending unit? Do i have to pull off all the hoses around it? It kinda tight in there and I was looking for a shortcut.
