Exclamation oil pressure gauge fail? or big problem?

Hey yall.

i wasnt sure if this was just a gauge fail or something that could be potentially wrong with my s4..

oil pressure gauge just sits there. it moves a little bit but not like it use to. car seems to be running fine. nothing out of the ordinary that i can see. no funny smell, or smoke coming from anywhere. i am a little overdue for a oil change, but thats about it.

should i be worried? anything else i can check to make sure everything is A'Okay?

thank you much in advance.

video attached shows a warm start up.

First, check the wiring.
Second, check the sending unit.
The gauge proper is the least likely/common failure point.

If you really had no oil pressure, you probably know it by now.

The sending unit is below/slightly in front of the oil filter, on the block.

You'd overheat in a big way with no oil pressure.

i have the opposite issue. when i drivee, warm or cold, the oil pressure rises almost to the top of the guage. but when i let off the gas it drops back down.

i drive a n/a s4. is this normal?

the answer to any question regarding the oil pressure gauge on the cluster is...

REPLACE IT WITH A STAND ALONE SENSOR AND A STAND ALONE GAUGE!! PERIOD. DONT TRUST THE STOCK ****!!!!!!

you are welcome.

I would agree that this is the correct move for the coolant sensor gauge (both S4 and S5 suck) but the oil pressure gauge is actually quite good, albeit heavily dampened.

But whenever people come here asking about a funking reading on the oil pressure gauge 95% of the time it's the instruments not the oil pressure. The gauge is (usually) pretty much good for 0 psi, 100 psi, and "ok" psi. Maybe if you fix it it's fine.

The s4 temperature gauge seems fine unlike the insensitive s5. If you mean the coolant buzzer, afaik that tends to work fine too.

problems with a lazy/stuck low guage are usually carbon track issues inside the pressure sender
- it can be overhauled,, or simply swapped with another
problems with full range/ high signal all the time are often related to the lack of the line conditioner cap /filter and electrical noise saturation
