oil pressure gauge?
hey guys i knew that the oil pressure gauge in the fc cars arnt the best so i baught a dummy gauge today and i need some help on hooking it up. whats a step by step procedure and do i need to have any special tool or anything of the sort. it came with instructions but there pretty terrible.
ok if you have a haynes manual look up oil pressure sending unit.....after locating that unscrew it(maybe a little difficult)then replace with the aftermarket one. then ground the black wire and connect one of the others to a +12V and one to your ignition...pretty simple....

ok well i tried to undo the sending unit. cant. also u said to replace it with the aftermarket one? dont have one. i have a gauge. and some wire and a white hose. dont know what to do here.

i baught the gauge from princess auto but heres the gauge on ebay. maybe you can help me out.

You connect the gauge to the engine at the same place the factory sender was connected. You will need a 1/8" BSPT male to 1/8" NPT female adapter.
The wire is likely power for the backlight. The proper way to connect it is to the dimmer circuit in the dash but most people just connect it to the cigar lighter bulb. Then there will be another connection on the gauge for ground.

You would remove the stock sender, connect your BSPT to NPT adapter, and then connect the gauge to that. If you are uncomfortable with doing this, then a mechanic should be able to complete the installation in less then an hour if you provide him/her with all the necessary parts (including the adapter!).

i think he doesn't get the fact, that he das to install the GAUGE in the engine bay! unfortunately with this mechanical gauge, he's not able to monitor the oil pressure while driving... hope he knew that before purchasing...

A mechanical guage is mounted inside the car just like an electrical guage. The kit comes with a plastic hose (note that he mentioned this). The hose is routed through the firewall into the cabin and then into the back of the guage. The guage directly measures the pressure, hence the term "mechanical".
Routing this hose is a little more hassle than wiring an electrical guage and there is always the possiblity of oil leaks in the cabin. This is the downside of the mechanical guage.
The upside is that the are cheaper and give a direct reading of the oil pressure.
Happy to clear this up for the Swiss...

forgot about that setup! but that hose would need to be kind of stiff then... imagine the pressure brought up...

ok guys i went out and returned that gauge and baught an electrical gauge. it seams they might be a little better. i have a sending unit and the gauge it self. is this all i have to do.
mount the gauge. undo the old sending unit. put the new one on and conect them with 18 gauge wire(thats wat it says to use). run a wire to the engine ground and run a wire to the ignition switch. the ignition switch, is this the one so when i turn my car on it comes on or could i just run a toggle switch? is it hard to hook it up t the ignition?

You can connect it to the ignition. Grab a copy of the Factory Service Manual or Haynes manual and then look at the diagram for the ignition switch. You will see that black/white wire at the ignition switch is IGN 12V. You can ground at any convenient location, you don't need to go to the engine. Again, make sure you have the BSPT to NPT adapter.
