oil pressure gage
My oil pressure gage somtimes doesn't give any reading. how can I verify weather or not it's just the gage or if I really don't have any oil presure. And what are some possible fixs

Below the Oil Filter you will find the Oil Pressure Sender (OPS). It Is to a mushroom cap looking valve that bolts on to your engine. There should be a wire branching of the harness that connects to the top of the sender.
Check to see If It's connected. Take It off, give It a good cleaning (wire) than reinstall. If that doesn't work, It's likely that the OPS Is coroded Inrernally. Replace It.
This Is likely the culprit. Although, the Oil Thermo Valve, at the Oil Cooler and the Oil Bypass Valve, at the front of the eccentric shaft have been known to be additional culprits. Not to mention bad contacts behind the dash but unlikely. Check the OPS and report back.

the sending unit (sensor) for the guage is right below the oil filter. it had a single wire with a little connector on it. sometimes it will unhook itself, but if it sometimes works for you and sometimes doesnt, its probably not fallen off
the sending unit on my old car used to work most of the time, and not work some of the time. i replaced the sending unit b/c i knew that was the problem.
you can test the guage itself by grounding the little connnector on the sending unit w/ a jumper wire. have somewone watch the guage while you do this and only tap it on a ground, dont hold it b/c you dont want to burn anything up.
to test if you have oil pressure. squeeze the oil cooler hose w/ the engine off. remember what that felt like. now turn engine on and at idle the hose should be a bit harder than what it was before. if you squeeze the hose and tap throttle a little bit, the hose should become rock solid.
