oil pick up gasket question

Ok, this may sound like a dumb question but im gonna ask it anyways....

I'm reassembling the external parts of the engine (water pump, oil pan, manifolds, etc) and today went to do the oil pick up and pan and realized that i am missing the gasket for it...im sure that it needs SOME kind of sealing agent there or else there wouldnt be an original gasket for it, correct? i mean, what would happen if i just bolted it up? low oil pressure? and could i use rtv instead? ive always used the OEM gasket on engine assemblies before, so i dunno if rtv would do it or not. i would just make my own gasket from some gasket material, but im all out at the moment so it just made me think. So should I: A) bolt it up (i think this is unlikely correct), B) use RTV, or C) get some gasket material and/or the OEM gasket. thanks!

its an important seal! i use the factory gasket and a little thin coat of silicon on both sides.
