oil pan gasket reusable?

I want to switch my oil pan over to a TII oilpan instead of tapping it for an oil line. Is it possible to reuse the oil pan gasket or am I stuck ordering another gasket in?

Turbo and n/a run the same oil pan. It's the front cover you switch for oil return.

I think you'll find when removing the oil pan the gasket, if any, cant be reused (I could be wrong). My 90 NA didn't have a gasket. It was sealant they used at the factory. I used no gasket and Honda Bond per some recommendations.

the pans never had a gasket... mazda used silicone, so no.

if it has been rebuilt and used a paper gasket the answer is still no.

the quick answer is you do not need a gasket, just silicone. some companies make the gasket but you do not need it, i do not even use them anymore because i have less potential leaks without them unless the pan is beat up and semi warped.

TY, I am going to get some gasket maker than so I can avoid paying 30 dollars for the oil pan gasket > that money can go towards gauges to keep me from exploding damn it.

You do not need a gasket. Grab some Ultra Black RTV and you'll be golden.

Had some held aside for me at napa heading over to grab it right now I appreciate the help because I was iffy on buying a pre-made or just using some silicone. This will help hasten the build greatly, I just hope I don't get in to it and find there are small misc hoses I need to buy for oil and coolant feeds to the turbo.

I've used Permatex Form A Gasket Type 2 (with nothing else) with a lot of success on my pans. That, and I use it in the Navy all the time!

I don't think this is correct. I've torn down engines that were from 100% stock never molested cars and they have always had a pan gasket.

The Mazda part number for the 86-92 13B pan gasket is N3Y0-10-427. It also comes in the full engine gasket set from Mazda.

My preference is to use the Mazda gasket with a skim coat of RTV (Permatex Ultra Grey) on each side, and big washers on the bolts. Torque to a few FT-LBs, let cure, then torque to 10 Ft-LBS as specified in the FSM. Never had one leak.

every single engine that left the factory used silicon and no gasket. just because a car is stock, doesn't mean it didn't get work done to it at some point, especially considering its 20 years old....

back when i started playing with cars in the 90's, they used to leak oil, and people used to spend money to fix them. i didn't start at mazda until after the FC was long out of warranty, but i did find a binder full of warranty paper work. they used to replace the rear hatch glass on the FC's, they must have done close to 100 of them. yet i've never seen one that looked like it had been changed....

or to use a more pointless example, we had a tech who could do 3 626 4 cylinder automatic transmissions in 1 day, and he needed too! those transmissions used to fail every 30,000miles, so if say you looked at a used 626 now, you'd maybe see that the trans had a rebuild tag on it, but you wouldn't think that maybe its the 3rd or 4th rebuild!

Which begs the question, why does Mazda sell an oil pan gasket and include it in the kit when they themselves don't use it?

Why were they replacing rear hatch glass? I wish they broke more often because I've had one in my garage I've been trying to sell for 10 years...

the FSM says something like field repairs.

they were changing the hatch glass, because the studs that hold it in crack the black shading around the edge... we also used to have FD's come in because the hood latch squeaks. they still squeak, but fixing that is so far down the list its almost not a problem.

Because they felt like they could build them better than we could.

If that hatch glass is a 10 anny, I'm interested.

Silicone seal has been set on oil pan gasket, now we are sifting through all the hosing we have in a box to make sure we have coolant and oil lines going to the turbo. I have never once in my life installed a factory turbo so this is a little odd.

Thanks for all the responses to the oil pan gasket really helped keep my project moving!
