Oil pan differences. S4 vs S5

I was finishing my motor today, and i put on the RB baffle pan..

I layed the silicone on both sides, and i grabbed the freshly cleaned oil pan, and went to put it on, and all the sudden it wouldn't go. I flipped it over, and realized it has a plate on one side of the pan that raises over the edge of it. I compared it to a S4 pan, which doesn't have this plate..

Does anyone know why this S5's have this plate unlike the S4's? I had to grab the s4 pan and clean it really fast to put on before the sealant set up..

It's to keep oil from the rear OPR from splashing into the pan.
The "pedestal" allow the oil to splash onto it first and then dump into the pan.
This keeps aeration minimized.

So essentially it's considered a baffle then..

thanks..

Not entirely true...
I consider a "baffle" as a large plate that keeps an existing fluid reservoir from moving excessively and keep sloshing around to a minimum.

The small plate in the corner is almost a "diffuser", where is minimizes bubbles and aeration from a cascading "waterfall" of oil from the OPR directly down into the oil in the oil pan below.
By breaking the direct drop of the oil from the OPR, this allows the falling oil to "trickle" slowly into the oil in the oil pan below.
This small pedestal is purely to minimize air bubbles in the oil; it does not really help in oil sloshing when the vehicle is moving.
