oil pan baffle plate Good mod or waste of money ?
Should i get one . my car is a daily driver and an occasional trip to the strip , i dont auto-x but i plan on tryin it out . what exaclty does it do ?
I put one on my 86 about 2 years ago and love it. I installed some stainless steel oil cooler lines at the same time, so I'm not sure if the changes in the car are coming from one or the other. I don't know why this happened, but my car ran a lot cooler even since I installed it (like it never passes about 1/4 on the temp. gauge, and is usually lower actually), and the oil pressure is solid.
It basically helps prevent oil sloshing in the oil pan, which is where the oil pickup is located, thus preventing oil starvation. It also (supposedly) gives the oil more time to get rid of air bubbles, which aids in the cooling process as well.
Installation is *relatively* simple, but it's problematic if you have an old gasket on there cuz it's really tough to get off...
Good luck!

When my OMP was still intact, everytime the OIL LOW buzzer went off (with the RB oil pan baffle installed), I know I needed exactly one quart of oil to be replaced.
The baffle helps keep oil down in the oil pan and minimize oil "frothing" due to all the sloshing.  This is more for folks who "race side-to-side"...

with my last engine above 7k or so rpms my oil pressure would drop down to about 45psi in a hard series of turns (on a stock oil p guage) and slowly rise wile going down a straight. it never stayed at the stock level (65 psi) unless i was driving normally (below 5500 rpms). with the new engine i am installing i have a shimmed oil relief valve, mechanical oil p guage, and a baffle. I am expecting to see a great improvement in oil p stability. will keep you posted. new engine arrives next week.
That baffle is just that,,a baffle,not a windage tray,there is a differance.
for the rx7's that baffle is installed between the pan and the pan rail.
the installation info advise that pan gaskets be doubled, thus makeing
more posable of oil leaks..The rotory engine do not use counter weights
as a piston engine does,,so there's not as much "windage" inside the
blocks,,,(housings)

As above, the reason is to keep the oil from moving back and forth so much. If I don't overfill a little I get a low level buzzer in long left handers while autocrossing. The pressure doesn't drop and the turns don't last long enough to cause a problem in autocross. Might be more serious in road racing.

I am just looking at the design of this plate and I do not see how it stops the sidewards motion of oil.
Maybe, in a turn the oil will start to run up the rotor housing. Where with this plate it would keep it from doing that.
