oil in oil pan reeks of gasoline

yea, the oil in my pan smells like gasoline (looks a lot like it too )
obviously there's gasoline in there.

i already know that it's going to need a rebuild, but i'm curious as to why and how this happened

car has been flooded, replace the oil, then next week do it again (to get it all out of the oil cooler as well).

how about if the engine didn't flood, but gasoline is in there still... Oil is changed, but gas is still there... what's up with this....

The gas will vaporize with normal driving.
Aircraft engines for cold climates have had oil dilution pumps for years. They pump gas into the oil tank to thin it for easier starting. Then it vaporizes after 5 minutes or so.
You may just be smelling the residue gas additives?
If a good 15 minute run doesn't clear it up, then I don't know.

i've been driving the car for a few days already...
and no, it didnt clear up the smell of gasoline and that damn turbo engine still seems nervous.

and i'm certain my engine hasn't flooded, because i haven't had any starting problems whatsoever.
what's wrong with this engine???

i'm stressed out about it...cuz i dont have any money for a rebuild or swap....

I had some major flood problems, and have changed oil 6 times now (in the last 3 months.) Still has a bit of gassey smell to it. Almost gone though. Took all 6 changes too. Probably should do one this weekend. In any case, I instaled a fuel cut switch wich cut down considerbly on the flooding. Still get oil that reeks of gas every 600 or so miles though.

to madscientist:

if you do short drives especially without letting the car warm up,

if the engine has lost some compression,

if you are running super rich,

then your oil may stink.

Change your oil often (using correct grade for season) until you find and correct the problem

A slight gas smell may be ok if engine is border line compression-wise, but a strong one like you describe(without flooding condition) is not good.

I have just read your other thread. Looks like you are having low compression. Problem solved. Yep, start saving for a rebuild -
