oil metering pump help please!!!
hey everybody, i have an 86 rx7, its my first rotary experience and i love it! being that im new...i have a few (possibly stupid) questions and any help would be appreciated. THE LINKAGE ROD GOING FROM THE OIL METERING PUMP TO THE THROTTLE IS MISSING ON MY CAR!!! i can see the oil being pumped through the lines at idle. is this normal? how can i temporarily (quickly) fix this until i can find the right linkage? any help would be appreciated. also...the oil nozzles appear as though they should have some type of hose (vacuum?) attached to them and there is nothing attached...is this just an air inlet? thanks everybody, your response is much appreciated. Tony
Well..You definitely don't want to run it like that. The rod controls how much oil is sent to the nozzles based on throttle and there needs to be vacuum applied. If you go to http://mazdatrix.com/c-5.htm they have the vacuum setup you may need. They call it a spider. You could also buy hose and a splitter at a auto parts store to make your own. It looks crappy, but works.
Someone could have been running a premix on the motor, do you know the person who owned it...if so, I would ask. For now, I wouldnt run the motor till you knew for sure or get it corrected.

It's normal for oil to pass thru the omp lines with the rod disconnected andt and the lever on the pump spring loaded downwards.
Find a rod out of the wrecking yard or buy one on this forum in the Wanted Section.
On top of the injectors is a nipple meant for air coming from BEFORE the throttle plates. That means NO VACUUM HOSES ALLOWED for these nipples. All four on a stock car come together in what they call a SPIDER (see Mazdatrix online). They all feed into the spider and one hose comes out of the spider and goes the LARGE nipple on the front of the throttle body. The large nipple of the three that are one above the other.
While your finding a rod, buy some pre-mix oil and put it in the gas tank at one oz to each gallon in the tank. It will mix just fine since the fuel pump is a constant flow pump.

Correction to my statement, the lines are not your normal vacuum as HAILER states, but you can use vacuum hose to make your own spider if you dont want to spend the money for the one I sent a link to from mazdatrix.com.
The nipple HAILER refers to is on the back side of the throttle body plate. There is 4 nipples from top to bottom, its the larger one towards the bottom I believe. To get a better picture, check out the owners manual http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/efanmyth.htm or see the FAQ section.
Good luck.
