Oil Metering Pump

alright heres my problem in a little more detail...from idle if i floor the car, the RPM will jump to about 1 1/2 - 2000 RPM and the fuel will cut off ryte away...thats wen i see the RPM drop back to idle and in about 2 seconds while still holding the pedal to the floor the Exhaust will POP!!! and a cone shaped flame will shoot out of my N1's and pieces of converter will come out with it all burnt....it feels as if something is clogged...could it be the injectors? because if i slowy gas it, the car will reach to about 5000 rpm smoothly then cutt off again as i try to reach 6000....im hoping its not the OMP because right now im trying to remove it and its a pain in the *** to get to the bolts...especially since i cant get the clutch fan out of the way *STRIPPED BOLTS IN A CRAMPED AREA SUCKS*

I don't see the connection between the OMP & the cat?

You could have a clogged cat.

An OMP problem on your 89 will give a check code.
If you're not getting a check, I would not mess with the OMP.

If peices of your cats are comming out dont you think it MIGHT be the cats?

The MOP has nothing to do with that kind of stuff except for the fuel cutting off which resembles limp home mode.

Have your injectors chealend. Maybe they are leaning out the mix and making **** burn too hot.

Dirty injectors will not result in a lean condition. They will result in a rich condition.

Problem number 1 is definitly damage to the cat. It sounds exactly like the symptoms of a clogged cat. Since your car is shooting flames under no load, you are probably running excessivly rich.

Ok my bad but wouldn't failing injectors not be able to hold up the need for fuel? That is what I should have typed not dirty :-/

anyhow servicing them would help out in any case

Dirty/failing injectors tend to stick and not close properly, thus dumping fuel into the engine.

so the problem might be the dirty/failing injectors? because my car does seem to be running too rich...aye another thing i successfully removed my first 2 injectors that lye under the throttle body...and i encountered another problem...i cant seem to take off my top half of my intake manifold..i think it might be siezed up because i removed all the bolts but it still has a death grip....what could i use to solve that problem? im desperate because i need to get to my other 2 injectors that lye under the intake manifold...

Buy a haynes manual if you don't have one. It will explain all the bolts and connections you need to undo to remove the UIM

You're forgetting the bolt in the middle, or one of the brackets at the front.
