alright im reinstalling the OMP on my 87 turbo after years of pre-mixing. Im getting ready to install the OMP adapter that injects 2 cycle instead of engine oil. I put everything back on and started the car and watch, i do not have the adapter installed yet im was just checking to make sure the pump is going to work. I watched the oil lines to make sure i seen oil flowing threw them. Now my question,

Sould the oil be a solid stream of oil or be spiting it up the lines( alot of air bubbles going up with little oil)? This is at idle with the rod on the OMP pulled up all the way.

When i was watching it it was very little oil going threw the lines, but alot of air.

 

I don't think there should be any air in the lines. The stock oil intectors had a check valve that did not allow air to enter the lines via the engine. Out of all the oil injectors I've tested about 80% leaked. Perhaps your oil injectors are not working properly.

 

I had the same thing on mine. It would have oil scattered throughout the tube. If I pushed the throttle on the throttle body while watching it, I think oil would flow toward the engine. I don't remember, its been a little while since I've had the OMP installed.

 

bubbles = nothing wrong w/ the pump

I can't remember if bubbles are a result of incorrectly functioning oil injectors, or something wrong w/ the omp lines... one of the 2

 

Could probably be both. A crack in the line would allow air in, as would faulty oil injectors. Either way somethings not right. This is the primary reason I will be adding premix manually to the gas. I KNOW if the premix is going in, no more guessing and trouble shooting stupid problems like this with the stock system.

 

I checked the lines and the oil injectors befor i put them on, is there any way the OMP can be putting air into the lines? So your saying deffentally There should be No Air in the lines right?

 

The reason i ask is cause im watching the lines RIght off the pump and the air seems to be comeing up from the pump

 

I'd expect that for proper control and metering, a solid stream makes more sense. This might seem basic, but could it be simply a matter of flushing air out of the pump (maybe by flowing a lot of oil thru for an extended period)?

 

Wait, you can actually see oil going through the lines? Are the OMP lines clear or something? BTW, do they have a tendency to crack?

 

if i remember correctly, it is o.k. to have oil spaces in the lines if the car is sitting at idle...noremally this is caused by gravity pulling the oil back into the pumps. if you just installed the lines then my suggestion is to drive it a bit so that the oil can begin a normal flow through the lines. if the air spaces remain, then you may have a problem. mine was like this after i replaced my omp in my 90 vert. and that is the advice i was given...worked out o.k. for me.

Oh yes. On a 15 year old engine with >150000 miles they are comparable to brown glass.

 

Alright im not done, i've been messing around with it today, still looks like airs coming from the pump. I tried playing with the vac line gonig to the oil injectors, pulled it off left it open put my finger over it put it onto a vac line just to see what it would do. still air coming up threw the lines. Could the pump be bad or could oil not be getting to the omp all the time?

 

And just to make sure i checked them right, how do you check the oil injectors to make sure there working right?

 

Do not put a vacuum on the oil injectors lines that go to the spider. There is not supposed to be a vacuum there. The rotor pulls a vacuum from the engine side of the oil injectors to pull ambient air thu the oil injectors to atomize the oil.

You should be able to blow FROM the oil injectors TOP towards the engine....but not be able to suck air at the top of the injector from the engine side of the injector. It's in the online fsm at http:www.iluvmyrx7.com in the OIL SECTION.
