oil cooler bypass thermostat replacement???

Does anyone ever replace or discard the oil cooler bypass thermostat? I would imagine that they go bad like all of the other thermostats on this car, but I never hear anyone saying anything about them. Mazdatrix does not sell a replacement on their web site and I have not found any others on the internet. Anyone know anything? Does anyone drain the cooler when they change their oil? I can only manage to get about 2.5 quarts to fill the sump plus the filter. The car originally needed 5 quarts with the cooler empty. opinions??? Facts??

i was not aware there was a thermostat for the oil cooler, are you talking about the oil pressure thermostat? there is aftermarket plugs to set the oil pressure constant if you need a link i'm sure i could drag one up. if you are talking about bypassing the oil cooler i haven't tried but you could probably just make a bypass hose out of both your originals to run from the back of the engine to the front. take both hoses to a hose shop and have them use the banjo fitting from the rear hose and the taper fitting from the front and make them into one bypass hose. i never bothered to check if capping off those fittings would hurt or obstruct oiling of the engine so i wouldn't suggest that unless you have checked into it.

personally i like having an oil cooler, if you suspect it is plugged just take it to a radiator shop and have then bench flow it to see if it is obstructed. i have never had a problem with the cooler but the lines are another story...

Yes, there really are temp controlled "thermostats" in our oil coolers.

No, we never hear of them going "bad". Only way to tell would be to have a history of accurate oil temps for comparison purposes. Something like, "My oil temps used to be 180*F all of the time, and now they are 210*; what could be wrong?"...

thanks wayne your always a help. I suppose I will take my Prozac and shut up. by the way, as if this hasn't been said before, don't take anything I say seriously unless I am directly talking to a moderator, in which case, I am trying to get this IP address banned, which I'm not. You are still retarded though. and yes my motor is screwed up, it only managed to propel my skinny white *** past a very pissed frat boy's 5.0L GT the other day in front of some of my friends. My dick got huge for like 3 secs. Next up - Durramax GMCs above 100mph are total fun, and so are GrandPrix GTs running over with fat girl!

in the oil cooler, lines, rotors, oil filter, and ecc. shaft, all of which I do not change just because the car floods. I fixed that condition once and for all as well.
