Oil Change... Can I wait?

Hey all,

My BF's Father manages a change of auto servicers (gattos) and so I normally get most of my labor (oil change, ect. ect.) for free when I bring my RX there. But I live about 2.5 hours away, so I get things done when I go home. I have gone about 300 miles over the oil change sticker they put on my windshield and I know oil changes are big deal with the rotary engines. Should I go to a servicer around where I live and pay to get it done or can it wait a week or so till I drive back home... (Its about a 160 mile drive)

There is about 105k on the car.

Thanks!

how is the oil level? How clean is the oil? How much driving are you going to do? How hard do you drive?

Another tip: stay out of the lounge.

Do it now. An oil change is only 30$.

My dad asked me once if I should get an oil change. Then I told him I don't get oil changes, I just change the engine every 3000 miles. He laughed cause its true. I have never got an oil change. haha

theres nothing special about rotary oil changes besides specifying the type of oil you want to use.

well go look at your oil level, see how dirty it is and if it needs oil add another quart or so.

I don't think it's a BIG deal to wait a tad longer if you're not going to be redlining all day , everyday until you go get the fluids changed.

If the oil is low and dirty then you should spend the cash and get it done ASAP.

I would take that lounge warning seriously.

do it yourself. if you insist on driving 2.5 hours to get a free oil change instead of doing it yourself, you shouldn't be driving an RX-7. it's that simple.

Well first of all, I just bought the RX two months ago... I did all my oil changes in my last car but it was a 1974 VW superbeetle. I think there is a bit of a difference here. lol

And, I do make that 2.5 hr drive about every month so its not an inconvenience...

(Plus.. I'm a superbusy student, I love the RX and would love to learn/ get under the hood, but I dont have time, equipment, or place to personally change his oil... especially when someone else can)

plus I don't think you all appreciate the word FREE as much as I do. I'd never do my own oil change if I could get it done for free anywhere.

(a) 2/3 hundred miles won't make that much of a difference.
(b) sooner or later any oil change place (even if it is your pappys) is bound to screw up something in the car. Since the shop is family owned, you will likely get better service getting it back together if they do.
(c) is is not hard, nor does it take long to do it yourself
