OEM CD Player
What year(s) did they come in for the 2nd generations? I would be interested in swapping one of these in for my OEM radio, because I'm assuming that it would be alot cheaper than paying for an aftermarket CD player. Are they interchangeable?

CD
The CD players started in 87 or 88. I got one from an 88 vert and put it in my 87 GXL. Beware of the CD thought. It skips like crazy. I had to replace all the little rubber drive belts in the stereo, two in the cassette and one in the CD The CD has been giving me fits. I can make it work just fine on the bench, but it won't take the disc all the way in when installed in the car. One of my witer projects!
All told, my advice would be to get an aftermarket CD if you want one to listen to while driving around town.

Okay, well an aftermarket CD player is really far down my list of things to get, so I'm just going to go the ghetto route and do the tape/portable CD player thing.

i actualy have my old one up on ebay right now. they are realy quality units. made by pioneer definetly worth it as an upgrade if you just have the tape deck. here is a link to my page.

the realy nice thing about em is that they have a six channel output while most aftermarket units only have 4. this way you can push speakers in all the stock locations.

Yeah, I put the $30 bid on it... it's up to $90 now. I don't want to pay that much for what it is. For just a little more cash, I can get an aftermarket CD player.

Don't waste your time with the stock CD player. This was very new technology back then, and it shows. Sound quality is only average and it skips like a bastard. Any little jolt will do it. No matter how little you pay for it, you'll regret it in the end.

I have the factory CD changer. I hope to install it some day.
I also have a NEW factory radio, tape and EQ setup.
I just like to have the factory stuff and I don't care what it costs to keep the things working.
