Oddyssey battery

I've been looking into batteries and I found the oddysey 680mjt and the sports power model. It's got 680 cca. Is that enough to start an fc? Idk electrical numbers and I couldn't find it on the FAQ. Any experience with these would be nice.

yup, I'm running the pc680. It fits perfectly laid down in the battery tray.

They don't like electrical draws though. You can easily kill one if a draw is there for a day or two.
I've drawn mine dead a few times and had to trickle charge it for a few hours, but it keeps coming back to life

You can see mine in the bottom left

I used to run one a couple of years ago and switched it out for a Honda sized battery. When I was in Jersey it would start up great in the summer time but when it got cold it would crank really slow. Sometimes if I didn't start it for a few days it would be dead or just not enough to start the car. When I moved to Germany, forget about it.

It might be enough for San Fran weather.

The battery has 680 cranking amps, but only 220 cca

no, a dissconected battery will still be cold, and therfore yeild cold cranking amps, cold also drains it a bit.

Sounds more like "don't leave lights/accessories on and don't use it when it's below freezing." That's assuming you don't have any amperage draws with everything off, if you do there's something wrong.

Oh. Ok. Cool I think I'll pick one up. I was thinking about optima red too since I have a blue top. I want to try these out since they are so small. Lol

Battery capacity = Their size.

I never like those undersize battery, sure its cuts the weight by more than 1/2 but you also get less than 1/2 the power. For a 2K something lbs street car that weight saving is just meaningless, and you have to worry about the battery being drain to death if you leave it for more than couple of days cold. why even bother ? Thats just my 0.02

Sometimes it's nice to have that extra space though, like in the engine bay pictured ^^^ but you could always relocate instead. There are certainly trade offs.

A good compromise is the miata battery. About 23.5 pounds and 400 CCA @32F, which is much better than the bare 200-ish CCA some smaller ones offer.

There's always a negative Nancy in the bunch with the 2 cent comment without knowing what the person posting might be planning.

Whitey. How big is the battery?

Also using a PC680, wired from the box behind the passenger's seat with a circuit breaker. Always starts, no problems. Just for good measure, I flip off the breaker when done with the car. The daily driver '92 Protege has a PC925 in it as well, also runs great. I'd say that losing ~40 pounds and having similar battery performance is worth it, for a car that will take advantage of the weight loss.

Had a optima red for 4 years, switched it out for a the oddessy so i can relocate batt under the dash. It lasted a summer but was always dead, if i left my car sit for 2 days or say it rained for a few days then when it dried up i would go to take it out, no life in batt, just barley crank. Got rid of that switched to a Braill. Junk....Put the optima back in, can leave it sit for 6 months, start right up. neagative degree weather, start right up after its been sitting for months.

Did the Braille have the same symptoms as the Oddessy? Curious.

exactly my point, unless you need the extra space for something, or you are on a race car that every single lbs save means something, I really don't see the point of getting a battery that will die in a few days (if you don't start it)

call me a hater all you want it was 5-15 degrees last month, my Red top still starts. can't say the same for the small battery.

it will work but ask yourself why you need the bare minimal sized battery in your car, it will only crank the engine for about 2-3 minutes before it is drained so hope you never have flooding issues or freezing climates.
