OBD system?
I tried searching for 'obd', found nothing, but just curious.. did any 2nd gen RX7 have OBD type of emissions controls on them?
I'm just wondering what the ramifications are of trying to get a car inspected (in Texas) where they do smog testing and so on.

Actually, SAE considers this OBD I. If the sensors can be checked by a OEM diagnostic machine, it falls into the category of OBD I.

I have enough of them sitting in my bedroom...

Do a Google search on "rx7 obd" or "rx-7 obd", and there is nothing that connects the two.
Yes, Mazda does have a generic "OBD", but it has nothing to do with "OBD I".
Mazda had fought any attempts to put any of that OBD crap onto any of the RX-7's that were imported into the USA.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Actually Ted all cars sold as '88 or later had to have OBD systems. The S4 FC had a primitive version that uses the diagnostic port that people use to set the TPS. The S5 and S6 used the next version of that with the check engine light blinking the codes.
1987: The California Air Resources Board (CARB) requires that all new vehicles sold in California starting in manufacturer's year 1988 (MY1988) have some basic OBD capability. The requirements they specify are generally referred to as the "OBD-I" standard, though this name is not applied until the introduction of OBD-II. The data link connector and its position are not standardized, nor is the data protocol.

I find it funny talk about emissions, but Mazda did not put any closed-loop monitoring of the EGR valve until the Cali FD's?
I guess monitoring all those auxiliary (emissions) solenoids would constitute as "OBD I"?
Well, Mazda had them in place since the introduction of the FC in 1986 and even back then to the GSL-SE model from 1984?
It sure looked like the "Mazda OBD" just happened to be in place and just happened to be minimal enough to be called "OBD I", but not the other way around...
