Question O2 Sensor Wire extension?

Where can I get one? I'm installing the RB header and I remembered that you have to extend your O2 sensor's wire so it can reach the bung on the header. Anyone have any idea?

i would not cut the wire, i would try to find some clips that you could make a connection from the harness to the connector of the sensor

I cut it and used a but connector to extend it. No problems here.

There are these little connections that have clips that are covered in shrink wrap tubing that I could cut away and then insert another length of wire. Do you think that would work?

As long as you're away from any ignition components, it will probably work fine using unshielded wire for an "extension" near the sensor itself, just remember when splicing that if the original wire has a shield, you must keep the outer shield strands seperate from the inner conductor inside the splice, or your sensor outputs will be shorted to ground...

Well, last I checked, the things under the shrink wrap tubing are like little clips that connect to one another. I was thinking that I could maybe cut away the shrink tubing, connect in another length of wire, then use some shrink wrap and close it all up.

Clips? Shrink wrap tubing? I have no idea what you're talking about, lol....

Unless that was a "homemade shield" setup for someone...

It's just rubber protective wrap that you slip over a wire and it shrinks up and stick when it gets heated. I'll just solder in an extension wire.

I know what heat shrink tubing is, I was wondering WHY it's on your O2 sensor wiring, that's all...

If you would have purchased Bosch p/n 12054 O2 sensor, no splicing would have been required, because the OEM type connector is already on it...

At least now I know why snub's got it on his wiring...

yeah i think mine was the universal kind. but it only cost like $17 while the one with the connector is probobly twice that and i would have had to splice anyway because i have a header.

It's all fixed now. I just clipped the O2 sensor wire, stripped a little at both ends, and soldered in a 3 or 4 inch long strip of remote cable from an old amp. Works great, and I covered up both open patches by shrinking some of that shrink tube stuff arount it. Now, surprisingly, the car is louder with the single cat as opposed to the presilencer. Weird...but nice.
