PA o2 sensor help

ok im at the ecu trying to splice a new wire on to the harness for my o2 sensor because it broke under the lim so while reading the FSM http://rx7.pw.cx/guides_manuals/coll...SYSTEMS_NA.pdf im looking at page 4A-32 and im having a slight difficulty on interpreting which way i should be looking at the connector ... should i be looking at it as if im holding the connector by the haness and the pin holes are facing me... or is the picture showing the rear ? i know its a pretty silly question but i would only like to make 1 splice today :\

its a N338 ECU
on a 88 n/a vert
1 5x2 pin 1 9x2 and a 12x2 pin

can i use any electrical wire or is this a resistance based application ?

The diagram is of the ECU side. So, for the plugs, you would be looking at them from the back where all of the wires run in. For the 02 sensor, you will want PIN 2D. The wiring diagram (pg. 50-31) shows the wire at 2D as being Green/Yellow. Take your time, and be sure you have the right wire. There is another G/Y wire on the same plug at pin 2H for the atmospheric pressure sensor, so make sure you get the right one. You can use any insulated wire for the job; the 02 sensor input is on a 0-1V scale.

Why not splice in the wire where it is broke off instead of messing with the ECU plug? This could be a bad bad thing to do. I am just wondering, not criticizing.

well it broke off under the LIM and i cannot get to the wire to splice it at all...i dont really have the extra cash to buy new gaskets for the lim .. and with the RB headers i got the wire was 22" too short, my idea was to splice it 8" off the ecu plug right to the o2 sensor and be done...... but im trying to be safe and not turn my 4 week project into a terminal issue :S

Understandable, thats why I was concerned about the ECU plug tampering. I think this is also my reasoning for never getting a SAFC or any variation.

That is PIN 2D, so it's just not the color the FSM says. It happens. The wiring diagram is kind of screwy when it comes to the 02 sensor actually. There's second black wire that it shows with a dashed line running to the 02 sensor and PIN 3G. PIN 3G is just listed as a ground, but it may be why the wire color at PIN 2D changes to BLACK, as well. Either way, I know others have run a new wire from 2D and had it work, so go for it.

It's a GREY shielded cable with a BLACK center conductor at 2D for the 02 sensor.
