Question O2 Sensor cable....need info

OK ...I can see that this WAS a shielded/coax sort of cable but All I have left is the inner cable....the outer insulation and sheathing have gone missing from up near the BAC valve all the way to the O2 sensor.....what I need to know is what significance the outer layer of the cable has. What does it do? (ie, is it earthed/positive battery?) Will the O2 sensor function without it?

i have also lost one side of the green connector (the side furthest from the O2 sensor)....does this matter? I have used a standard connector from the local electronics shop and soldered the other end of the wire to the O2 sensor cable near the BAC valve...

What symptoms would you see if the O2 sensor was not connected?

The stock wire is shielded to reject RFI.&nbsp The shield braid is grounded on the ECU side, opposite of the engine side.&nbsp Do NOT mix up the outer shield with the signal cable; if you do this, you risk blowing a section of the ECU board.

It sounds like you did the right thing by connecting another connector.&nbsp About the only thing that you might have done wrong is solder this connection.&nbsp Electrical connections in and around the exhaust system get very hot, and solder connections tend to get weak around such heat.&nbsp This is why the O2 sensor connectors are always crimped.&nbsp But I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it...
