O2 sensor
O2 sensor
My O2 sensor gave me the middle finger last night. NOw my car spudders and doesnt wanna run. I realize this may be the tip of the iceberg but has anyone ever changed they'res? mine is down by my exhaust manifold. The manual i haves says to use a wrench. I can find room for the wrench. I think a deep socket might be promising. But i dunno id it would have to be a huge socket. How did you guys get it out? Do i have to drop my exhaust? NOt looking forword to it if thats what i have to do.
I'm replacing mine right now since i'm going to a DP. Eh.. If you have ABS like I do no way in hell to get anything in there. I have my ACV and split air all removed so that added a bit more room but that ABS was my main hinder. Spray it with a bunch of liquid wrech and try to get a crecent (sp?) wrench in. It's your best bet.. otherwise it's 5 bolts. 2 where the pre cat meets the midpipe and 3 for pre cat to turbo.
dp = downpipe
I'm changing mine because I'm replacing a bunch of stuff and I figured while I have it all out I might as well. I just bought the TII 3 weeks ago and I just want to do all the fun tune up stuff to try to get the car back to it's '90 shape versus it's 2002 shape

They make a O2 sensor socket, its about $10 at your local parts store. Its a extra long deep socket impact style socket with a large cutout for the wire & it makes it easier to get it on. I got one of those and had no issues replaceing mine in minutes.

To get mine off, I had to use lots of PB Blaster, my big 1/2 drive torque wrench, and a couple of extensions so that I would have room. Worked like a charm. I just used as 1/2 drive 22mm deep socket. Easy to get the old one off; had to "gently" maneuver the wire on the new one to get it to fit in the socket.
Have replaced many, just like above post states. Special O2 socket, universal joint, extension, and let it rip, even with ABS. It's easier to remove when exhaust hot, butT easier to scorch your fingers.
Here's what did it for me: Get the o2 socket, some extentions, and a bigass breaker bar. Even then, you won't be able to budge it. Now, start the car up, and keep trying to bust it loose. Within a minute of starting the car, the heat had expanded whatever it needed to expand in order to get it loose.
And, uh, don't fully remove the o2 sensor while the car is running, probably.
After it's loose, turn the car off and wait a while to fully remove it.
