NRG hub and release installed

I was reading some posts about people having problems installing the NRG hub on the FC. A few people broke the turn signal cancel ring. Here's what everything looks like. Total install took less than an hour. The wheel is a grant corsa D. Now I can get in without having to swing my legs in from the side as well as with the spacer its a bit closer to me so I can actually reach the wheel without my arms being fully extended. FYI I'm 6'4" Let me where I might be able to find a mazda horn button for a grant wheel.

First remove the horn button by removing the 3 screws on the back side

Next remove the hub nut (21mm)

Either wiggle the wheel off or use a hub puller. Disconnect the horn wire.

Now using a dremel with a sanding disk, grind off the plastic around steering column trim. Just enough to remove the lip. It should look like this when you're done. Note the turn signal cancel/overly japanese switch...

Now for installing the hub.

The back side of the hub has a large horn contact surface, the splines and holes for the turn signal switch tabs to fit into. I was not sure what feature it was about the hub that caused people to break the switch but I drilled out the two holes an additional 1/8 to 1/4". There is nothing that you can harm by drilling it out. (the picture is before drilling)

Slide the hub onto the splines, make sure the line up those 2 tabs.
Tighten down the 21mm nut. I made it pretty darn tight, but I didn't go nuts. It did come off relatively easy and I didn't want to break the switch.

How much length does that quick release add to the hub? Do you have a stock seat or a race seat?

Looks good!

The hub is 1.75", the NRG spacer is 1/4", the quick release is 3.5". Or at least I'm pretty sure....

Ok.. I already have a MOMO hub and wheel, so you are saying the NRG part is about 3.5 in deep.

yeah if you use the NRG release on the momo hub then it'll stick out an additional 3.5" from what you have. I'll get some more pictures tomorrow

i recommend the nrg slim quick release with a standard hub, its not ball bearing, less mechanical parts to wear out, and the standard nrg/ebay hubs are soo common anyone with either any joe smoe ricer with a wheel can take ur car.. and no bulky crap on the back of your steering wheel = somewhat more portable lol

Make sure to use a momo hub adapter though as with the slim it will be even closer to the dash...

I'd prefer reaching for the turn signals vs having to reach for the steering wheel

the problem was with my height I have to have the seat all the way back and almost fully reclined (storage bins). To reach the wheel I have my arms fully extended and with the PS removed it's not the most fun in parking lots. Let alone trying to get into the car. So moving the wheel more towards me and the D shape of the wheel have completely solved the problem.

Good to know this works; I'm 6'2" and having about the same problem. I've been considering getting an aftermarket wheel for the same reasons.
