Now...usually when you say your bushings are "gone"...

You mean that they just don't work anymore. Faded and worn rubber/plastic.

Well, my shifter was sloppy as hell, so I finally just got the bushings so I could replace these.

I open up the shifter, and what do I see? NOTHING! Lots of oil, but THAT'S IT. I couldn't believe it. There were absolutely NO bushings in there at all.

So yeah, put the new ones on, and damn...whole new car

Mine was the same way. The action of the shifter and the oil literally disolves the bushing over time.

meh, I've got no bushings in mine since all I had was the 5spd tranny and shifter for the swap. I didn't even know their were bushings until after i installed everything. Damn sloppy is righ... getting into 4th you have to remember to move over, or you hit the gate with grindage. Otherwise its not bad. The shifter feels like your always in nuetral though.

My shifter had none in them as well. My friends 87 had just barely a top plastic ring left in a couple pieces he fished out of the oil.

there should always be oil! check your trans fluid level lately? no oil will case a premature failure of your trans from inadaquate lubrication of gears, synchros etc.......

Yeah please tell us all how in the world we can make our own bushings. First because it's a common problem for lots of people including me and second we all love to save money on the little stuff.

This is interesteing, when I drove my 7 for the first time. The shifter was sloppy as hell. I went and bought some shifter bushing and when I went to replace the old ones. The only thing I found was a flat metal spring, when I was expecting to find broken plastic bushings. I had assumed the previouis was an ******* and fished out the old bushings without ever replacing them.

Interesting to know in all likely hood the old bushings were simply dissolved by the lubricant.

Definately agree the 1st time I tried it out with new shifter bushings. It's damn, now this just kicks ***.

Why would you make your own bushings? I mean really, I just ordered some new ones for my car and I got em all for like $13 from THE DEALER, that's right the infamous dealer!

does anyone know how to get the seal off of the shaft (of the shifter). Im talking about the most inner one that has a rubber inside and metal ring around the outside that is attached with three bolts (i think its three.) mines wasted so i got another one, took everything apart and found that it wont come off.
