Not sure what to do next, need some guidance
Alright, I recently picked up an 89 TII. It has been opened up pretty good, intake, exhaust, dp, along with an aftermarket BOV, and a FCD. It also has had the air pump removed, as well as AC. It runs great, but really rich, and it floods frequently (I know, join the club). I have done a lot of reading up, but I am still a little vague on some of the finer points here. If I just want to get the car in a good state of tune, meaning not running overly rich, not flooding, and just generally maximizing its current mods, what should be my next step? I am considering an S-AFC, or similar FCON, etc., since it is a good budget option, and my power goals are not so lofty as to justify a standalone. If I opt for an AFC or similar piggyback ECU, will it do the trick, and up to what point does something like that become overwhelmed (if I do crave more power in the future)?
I plan to do some wastegate porting next weekend, and I figured with that and the AFC, I would be in good shape, am I wrong? Thanks guys, I'd appreciate any pointers, and I am grateful for all the info I have already found here using the search religiously.

The car should not run rich, and you shouldn't use aftermarket parts as a band aid.
First, make sure it is in good tune. Plugs, wires, filters, TPS, fluids. Make sure your coolante temp sensor is within spec.
If that doesn't clean it up, have the injectors professionally serviced.
Once the car is running properly, then you can install your S-AFC and TUNE IT PROPERLY.
If you can afford and tune it, I recommend going to a standalone as your first major mod. You will have much finer fuel and ignition control, and it lays the groundwork for future mods.

Thanks Aaron, I was actually planning to either get new injectors or have these serviced. I was under the impression that having the air pump removed, and the FCD would cause the car to run rich regardless of injector condition. I definitely was not looking for a band-aid fix, quite the opposite, I want everything running as it should.
I'll think about the standalone, but the price difference is pretty substantial (even before tuning costs are taken into consideration, I'm smart enough to know that I'm not smart enough to do it myself )
Thanks for the insight, it helps get me on track and prioritize things properly, now I hope to get this thing running well.
