Normal idle RPMs?

I have an 88 GXL and I was wonderin what the normal idle RPM was? I am at around 1200 after working up, possibly a lil lower. Anyone know what it is supposed to be at? Thanks.

750 RPM is the proper speed.

Mine tends to idle where it wants right now because I haven't gotten all the adjustments made perfectly, anywhere between 500 and 900 depending on accessories being used and such.

If I could pick an idle speed to set it at permanently it would be 600.

Oh, my idle is always smooth. It picks a speed and keeps it there for a while, it doesn't float around. If it has been run hard sometimes it idles a bit higher, if it's been sitting in traffic sometimes a bit lower.

My fast idle cam roller is wired back and no longer touching the cam, so that's not what's causing it to fluctuate.

Like I said before, I like 600.

A proper idle with no AC on should be 750 RPM, if you turn the AC on, it should go up to 850 or 900 RPM.

There's nothing really wrong with a high idle, just slightly louder and uses an just a touch more gas.

Well I definitely notice the gas mileage difference. Now my car idles at about 2000 RPMs. How can I adjust this?

My TPS is slightly out of adjustment, so my idle is at a rock steady 1000. Maybe someday when I get a new TPS, I can put her back to 800. It seems, when the idle was at 750, that when the car gets up to about 1/3 to 1/2 on the temp gauge, that it liked to bounce the idle around. I didnt like that, so I adjusted up a little. Much better now.

Could my TPS be my problem? O ya, where is this idle adjustment screw? Thanks.
