No torque?!

Hey guys. I bought a 2nd gen a few months back. And I cant seem to find any torque in it. When taking off it would bogg down then go. I've been driving stick for some time now, so, I'm certain that its not my driving. I can completely dump the clutch on it, and get nothing, not even a burn-out. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the world of a high-mileage N/A rotary...

No but seriously, when you say you can 'completely dump the clutch' and get nothing, at what RPM is this at? If you're holding revs at 4,200rpm and you 'dump' the clutch, you WILL get quite a bit of wheelspin. If not, there's something seriously wrong with your engine...

Compression test, anyone?

Kind of sounds like my FC when it ran on one rotor. My 202k mile S4 n/a can do a wicked 1 wheel peel all the way down the street and chirp into 2nd, something's not right with your car if it's acting like that.

I'd say do a compression test first. If that checks out, look over all your wiring, particularly to the fuel injectors. When I first got my n/a it would only run on 1 rotor, but the engine kept comp testing fine. I eventually figured out that the wiring to 2 of the injectors was so old and brittle from heat that the wires cracked within the loom. A couple new connectors and some soldering and all is well.

Just out of curiosity, if you free rev it in neutral, is it all sluggish like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4dE5IsPRV0

Aux ports working?

The rotary makes its torque higher in the power band then a piston engine.

Ok. I can rev up to 5000, dump the clutch, and still get nothing. Apparently, I red-line at 8000, not sure if that makes any difference. Its pretty sluggish on take-offs. I don't understand it.

it can also be timing problem, check to see if your timing is right. or if your leading coil is working.

Ok guys. Here's an update. While driving today, I lost all the pressure from my clutch. I'll push it completely in, and it would not go into gear. Also, it wouldn't rebound back into its original position. Sounds like a basic problem. But, I'm still a learner. .... Would it be that my clutch was a piece of crap to begin with? Thus the loss of torque?

You don't need a clutch, just pretend you are driving a Renault power shift. That being said, slave or master clutch cylinder would be the issue if you do not see the slave cylinder push the fork when you step on the clutch pedal...

Seems to be less an issue of torque "loss" and more an issue of an inability to capture it.

Sounds like your clutch is done. Mine kept requiring more and more pressure to operate, then it went out completely and stayed on the floor. I replaced the clutch master and slave, and that bought be a day or so, but it ended up being the clutch.

Have a friend push on the clutch pedal and watch the throwout arm move on the transmission. If it moves the slave and master cylinders are good. Verify the fluid level in the reservoir is correct. If that's not the problem then you need a clutch disc at the least...

could be a slipping clutch or 5th and 6th ports are stuck open possibly a combination of both

i would check timing fuel pressure and backpressure at o2 to see if cats clogged. Clutch problems are probably from you driving around dumping your clutch at every stop because you wanna do a burnout. Bogging down wouldnt be from clutch, if anything it would rev higher as in nuetral. Are your rpms going up while trying to accelerate hard or is it feeling like a run out of gas feeling with rpm not shooting up?
