No reverse lights ?

Just recently picked up an 88 TII. But the reverse lights don’t work, all other outside and interior lights work. I checked with a multi meter and they are getting no power and the bulbs are good. Assuming that I have to track down a ground. Hoping that someone could point me to where to look for them, or if they think it’s something else. Also it has an aftermarket gauge cluster that only the speedometer works on, that I have no idea about. So any help would be great.

Reveres/5th gear switch on the transmission. It will have 4 wires coming out of it, and be located on the tail housing. They get gummed up over time, and can be pulled and cleaned.

You mean the contacts burn up because the switch is not rated for the amps that go through it.

Yeah, I know some people wire in a relay to cut down on the amount of current. There's a writeup thread on it somewhere.

It's not hard to find, search this section for "reverse lights" and it's about 10 threads down.

I'd love for someone to show me how to take a TII Reverse/5th gear switch apart so it can be cleaned and still be able to put it back together and stay together.
