no oil pressure
I'm a newbie in the rotary world. i purchased an 89 rx7 convertable. the front of the motor was broke down to the oil pump. I replaced the oil pump and pieced the motor back together. the car hasen't ran for 2 or 3 years. i removed the old gas and put in new. the car crunk but i have no oil pressure at all. checked the oil to see if it was just the gauge but alas no oil movement at all. please help!!!!
The oil pump dosen't develop any real pressure untill the engine is running. Try draining your gas and have a friend pull around the block while the car is in gear. You should see your gauge move.
Pull all the sparkplugs out. Loosen the oil filter a turn.
Pull the plug off the CAS.
Spin the engine with the starter for thirty seconds or less and see if any oil comes out the filter. No oil? Too bad.

Pull the front cover off and examine the oil pump and the chain that turns it? Yes. Not easy.
What your looking for is, is to be sure the woodruf key has not fallen off the oil pump shaft when it was installed. No woodruf key means no oil pump action.

and don't let the thrust bearing drop off the assembly while you're in there!
