No more boost creep!

So ever since installing my 3" turboback and getting rid of the stock TID I have had boost creep problems, even though I ported the wastegate at the same time. If I ran off the wastegate spring I would get 6-7 psi in first, a little higher in second, and ~10 in 3-5th. 10psi was what I was shooting for, but if I raised the boost to 10 psi in first it would creep too high in the higher gears. I figured the wastegate just wasn't ported enough (it is only ~30mm) which was allowing for extra creep. For a while I just dealt with it, kept the boost set for just under 10psi in first, 10 in second, and just didn't go wot in the higher gears. Last week however, I was ordering some parts from the classifieds here and picked up an actual RFL that was on there for cheap from the same guy I was buying other stuff from anyway. I had been using an ebay copy RFL until this point, and it worked but I was getting some compressor surge from it, which is why I picked up the real one to see if it would fix the surge.

Long story short swapping from the ebay RFL to the turboxs one fixed the surge, but also I noticed on the highway today there is no more creep! Maybe it just has a softer spring so it is bleeding off some boost at some point, but I can't hear it bleeding out and there is no lag from it. I haven't changed anything except the BOV, not even the boost controller. After I noticed it wasn't climbing above 10psi going uphill on the highway in 5th I drove around a while testing it and I couldn't get it any higher than 10 (I didn't mess with the boost controller, I could turn it up to see if it is bleeding out of the BOV but I am happy with it how it is now).

So whether it is coming from the BOV under boost or something else, it would seem my ebay RFL was contributing to my boost creep, and now I can drive around without worrying about too much boost if I needed to accelerate quickly.

sounds like the BOV is leaking but somewhat to your benefit. should tighten it and fix the real issue. but if you are happy and it works, then **** it.

Your actually posting about your car not running right? Does this info benefit anyone on the forums? Why post this? This should have been posted in non-technical or the lounge or not at all. Where are the MODS?

This reminds me, this one time I had a flat tire, I was like totally searching on the forum for a remedy, mod, or solution, but couldn't find one. So, I went a bought a new one. It totally fixed my problem...

I just thought it was interesting how one little change and something possibly not working as it should actually corrected a problem with boost creep the car was having. Like I said I suspect the BOV is leaking but maybe there is something else going on with it, so I posted it here. No need to get all angry about it; maybe I should just keep my posting in the 2nd gen section to shooting flames or flooding or any of the other things that get posted all the time?

You could also just drill a hole in your intercooler piping for the same effect (boost leak), or maybe even in your exhaust manifold... I'm not angry. Just annoyed, thought there was going to be some good info in here then I saw it wasn't...

I agree with your shooting flame and flooding crap that gets posted all the time is garbage, but even some of that is ok if it has good information or content (crazy flamage is cool, but belongs in lounge or non-technical).

Good luck.
