Question No Highbeams

I could really use some help. Just got a 91 Covertible and the high beams don't work. I can short the the lights and they come on but don't work with the high beam switch. Other than that, the headlights work on low beam and the FTP works also, so I know the turnsignal/FTP/Highbeam switch works too. I have replaced the dimmer relay and tested the headlight switch and I have continuity in all of the wires in the headlight switch harness. I am now at a loss as to what or how to test/replace next. Everything I read talks about a latching circuit but I don't know where to look for it. All of the wiring diagrams I have seen have the wiring for the circuit in the 86-88. The 91 convertible uses electrical relays rather than mechanical switches housed in the dash shroud. Icemark has been very helpful, but maybe someone has had the same problem and can give me a quick fix

Thanks

I have the exact same problem with my 1990 convertible. I cant find out whats wrong. I was thinking about disassembling the switch and cleaning all the internal contacts.

i didnt have high beams so i replaced the headlights and it that worked. I thought it was kind of wierd how they both burnt out at the same time but that was over a year ago so it must not have been anything major.

The FTP feature works, but highs will not stay on?
It has to be the latching circuit in the cluster switch.

Maybe "IceMark" can fix you up with a rebuilt switch..

nope, the ftp doesnt work. when i pull back on the switch, it doesnt latch, nor do high beams go on.

with the headlights on when i pull on the switch, the headlights kinda flicker for a fraction of a second, the blue high beam idiot light flickers for a fraction of a second, then thats it. headlights stay on in normal mode. no matter how hard i pull back (i dont want to break it off), or how i manipulate the switch.

i just bought the car a month ago, this and the wiper switch are the only major problems ive found so far. (i found the fix for the wipers).

the clock/idiot light panel on the dashboard doesnt work either. i doubt it has anything to do with the highbeams, but the guy said he had to disconnect the plug to the dashboard clock/idiot light panel because the alarm was constantly beeping. im not sure what that is all about. i just started learning about fc's and im still trying to make sense of all the wiring diagrams.

SureShot is correct. The man you want to talk to is named Mark (IceMark on the forums.) It's most likely a broken switch.
