If you want to blow flames your exhaust must be heated up. I don't mean hot to the touch. I mean hot for an exhaust's temperature range. do a little driving at 4-6k to heat it up. Then just do some revs or coast around 6krpm.

BTW this is the stupidest thing really i mean come-on flames? Yeah its cool to freak people out but it gets kind of childish after a while. i haven't purposely made flames in a few months.

Yea even though its completely useless to performance and you have to hinder performance to do it, flames are still sexy. i mena people spend money on those autoloc kist just to imitate what our cars do naturally. i cant wait till ym breakin is over so i can spray some flames

i sold a guy a street ported engine, and with the stock manifold and straight pipes it would hold a 1 foot flame at idle

No flames are better than flames. I'd rather have less attention, not more

That being said I have a streetported motor with streetported exhaust, no emissions, straight pipe, TB mod, bla bla bla and as far as I know I don't throw flames. I think I have a couple times when I saw people backing off me really quickly (driving behind me) but my bumper isn't burnt and my friends have never said anything, so I doubt it happens often.

EDIT:
I must say though that after I did my rebuild/port when I was idling it in the driveway at 1800-2000 rpms for about 45 min after the first startup (gettin it broke in a bit) I did see tiny blue flames bellowing in the exhaust. Eventually they went away, though.

So would a pop followed by a flash (firecracker like) count as flames?

Yes, I had that with my race pipe and stock exhaust. Changed to an aftermarket single and now I got about 3footers coming out most the time. The flames are a good intimidation factor because people dont understand how are cars can do it w/o a spark plug in the exhaust. I've had people look at me like I'm stupid when I tell em I can do it.

I was thinking of getting a header but I heard one on a similar exhaust setup and it was raspy. I've got a bonez race pipe and a single 2.5" cat back. But on the stock manifold and it sounds very nice.

i like the sound of a straight pipe with the stock manifold better than with headers, in fact i dont think im gonna throw my headers on when i finish my project car. i had a full setup and it would seldom shoot flames, your best bet is to stomp on and off the gas at high rpms to get extra rich and shift...pop goes the flames. if i did that i could throw little flames when id parallel park

think a racing beat header, single high flow cat, and magnaflo mufflers will shoot flames. 87 N/A here. I get small ones sometimes.

So whats the scoop on magnaflow mufflers? Thats what I had installed on my car. Was actually a very nice sounding muffler of good quality. However there is a city here in utah called magna and its a total **** hole and you have to have a mullet and 10 dead cars to live there. So when I hear magna flow I think of the turds floating in that toilet of a city.

Is it still possible to shoot really nice flames without a single exhaust but dual(not true though). Of course this is with aftermarket headers, racepipe, and cat-back .

An excerpt from an interview between Roel Concepcion of Super Street and Yuuzo Ishikawa, Nismo's lead engineer:

Super Street: I also noticed that some of the cars have fire coming out of their exhausts. What exactly happens when the fire comes out?

Yuuzo: It's not a good thing. It's not sopposed to happen because for one the fuel is burning too rich. The turbo is also causing that. Overall, it's not a good thing. It looks cool but it's something we don't try to do.

Yuuzo's right. It looks cool. My 10AE is running so rich I can smell the fumes inside and friends complain about the fumes when following behind me. If I weren't shifting at about 3k to break in the new motor it'd be spitting flames constantly. Friends have seen flames just burning in the tail pipes not spitting out quite yet because I was just cruising. I'm running 3inch turbo back exhaust and custom intake with K and N filterported wastegate and some other blah blah blah.

Good luck, but don't blow your sweet 13b trying to look cool.

hey guys come on..its all good and all...Personally i rather not blow the flames..Dont need the attention here in Delaware where emissions are strictly inforced..Nonetheless i still air out my TII convert. rocket, but descretly. Low profile is how i roll..i learned my lesson after loosing my DL for street racing in Miami...Yeah im getting old (41) for that scene..But i still put a spanking on you hoooonda & toyo BOYS...Drive safely..4 real .I gotta put this in here..Guys its not how fast you go..trust me ive been up to 190mph in my 65 mustang,351 cleveland...its knowing when to stop...ok i rambled on enuff..PEACE-OUT..B real..sry so long..hey NE 1 in Delaware area..thumbs up..i see out there........

did you buy a rotary just for flames? why dont you tune your car for performance, and not to spit flames...

Some people are amazed by flames. Like at an autocross last year there was a vert rex that would shoot flames at these 2 corners. THe announcer would be like "come on FIRE FIRE!"

Usually flames are caused by running too rich, but its not always bad. Plenty of high horsepower RX-7s aren't always tuned for off throttle situations. Thats why a lot of them begin to shoot flames when they lift off the throttle.

It's funny, because in my N/a I can tune it as lean as I possibly want and still shoot a flame. Go figure... Though I must admit, I've always had better luck with an N/a (Except my turbo n/a, that thing is dangerous with those damn things).

I've driven my friend's car while he drove mine..

It shot out flames alot.

Not like "BAM" but like, it did what you said, it would be like little "burps" of fire. From the inside, you hardly ever HEAR it... But my car runs EXTREMELY rich at 46psi on my fuel-pressure gauge.

I can shoot some foot long flames if I rev it, but I have only done it for the hell of it, like twice. I need to get a smaller disc for my Vortech FPR so it'll lean out a little more. Or an S-AFC II would help tremendously.
