You just run the risk of compressor surge, I'd say it's not a very good idea

2 words: compressor surge

after radical throttle closing, the pressure " wave " will come back and hit the compressor wheel, which is not really something you want to happen

I even read somewhere that it can make your compressor wheel spin backward... ouch...

Unless you're running a lot of boost it will not cause damage. Keep in mind early turbo engines like my old 12AT never even had a BOV, and the turbos lasted for many years (mine blew an oil seal at age 16). The factory installs a BOV to eliminate the noise of compressor surge.

Depends entirely on the turbo, and would vary considerably.
