no boost! help!

hey guys, i had my headphones in while driving up the hill to my house today, and i noticed i coudlnt get any boost going...

i stopped, and looked at all the boost tubes, they all seemed to be tight, and not popped off...

when the turbo starts to spool up, it sounds like a firetruck siren...

im thinking maybe the turbo is blown? or just that i have to go over meticulously all the IC pipes, and see if one is off, and check all vacuum lines

anyone had a problem like this before?

thanks,Dan.

Maybe check the wastegate? I'm no turbo expert, but one of my buddies waste gates FELL OFF, and that's what the beast sounded like.

Inspect the turbo. If the turbo is out it won't spin or the seals will leak oil or water.

Verify leading spark plugs / coils are firing.
Verify T1 and T2 spark plugs wires are in the correct positions.

Yea, it does sound like you fried the bearings. Here is an idea. Unbolt the intercooler and the hose camp n the intake tube after the IC. Lift up the IC where you just took the clamp off. DONT disconnect the other side of the IC(turbo side).Have someone start the car and rev it up a bit and put your hand over the tube of the IC that is disconnected, so you can see if you really are not getting any boost.

i had the car running fine, its just the turbo.... what would my spark plugs have to do with it?

im gonna take a bunch of stuff off, and check all the vacuum lines, and the wastegate, and spring...

Maybe that would work if it were possible to produce boost without being under load. If you want to find a boost leak, and if you have access to compressed air, get a pvc pipe cap and a coupler that is the size of your turbo inlet, drill a small hole in it, and use an air gun to pressurize your intake. Any boost leak should be audible at that time. But make sure you have a guage on the plenum to avoid popping anything from too much pressure.

RETed, you could have just told him why it could possibly be a spark problem, istead of being a jackass.

sound alot like the turbo is REALLY toast to me, the siren noise means the bearings are really bad. did this all a sudden happen or has it been starting to make noise for a while now??

ive noticed the sound was really faint for a while now.. then just really bad all of a sudden, and no boost... haha

i know the reason too....

my motor has been getting too hot, and id rather shut the motor off, and not let the turbo cool down, then have to build a new motor....( i hope the oil wasnt cooking in the rotor housings too bad...)

so im in the process of fixing my cooling problem...hopefully should work out better

Why don't you try it and find out?
