Nitrous:I know I know...old topic

Ok, I did search. I read a very informative post by scathcart(Nitrous Injected in a Rotary Engine) all about it. It answered pretty much all my questions. But, I don't know where to go with this. I want to do a 50 shot on a 86 NA(Intake Header Exhaust No Cats). I figure a dry kit is in order. If I have a dry kit with a 50 shot, do I need to upgrade my fuel system? If I don't need to is it a good idea? Also do I need some sort of monitoring device i.e. apexi s-afc, hks super afr etc...
Thanks for the help

you should be safe with a 50 shot with what you have, but i would not go over a 75 shot unless you have a wet kit once you get past a 125 shot that would be a good time to get a safcII

Use a wet kit, dry kits suck *** for tuning.
Either way, get a better fuel pump.

You can run a 50 shot without any upgrades. I used to run a 55shot. But I sold the kit. I reccomend a Zex #82011 dry kit. It is a very easy and safe kit. I just installed my old one on someone else's GXL a week ago.

Not really, you'll just run richer at idle. All other driving conditions will be the same.

FYI.... New FPR is $150.
New Engine is $2000+.
I think you need to re-evaluate your priorities.

1. Zex sucks. I have seen more blown motors from their kits than any other. I can't stand FMU's.
2. you really should upgrade your pump when you run any shot on a modded car. Its just added insurance.

Walbro fuel pumps drop right in for $80, reliable enough. Don't really need to touch anything else; you'll just run a little richer at idle.

While we're on topic, which Venom wet kit do you recommend, Scathcart, there are several different p/n's to choose from on Venom's site for Mazda cars (of which the RX7 isn't one of them...I guess the main differences would be between the 4 and 6 cyl. kits, huh?

I have only installed one venow kit, and the owner did not want me to attempt any initial tuning/set-up, only install.

Thus, my experience with venom is limited, other than to say he blew his engine within 3 weeks, and I have not blown any engines installing wet NX/NOS brand.

I could have sworn I heard you mention how good the Venom kits are, LOL...I know you've changed your preferences over time...OK, so, I'm running strong with my rebuild now, new rotor housings, everythings good, what p/n NOS wet kit do you recommend (I only plan on using it maybe once every week or so to take care of some of the stronger cars that want to play...no more than 75 shot...already plan on upgrading pump...stock except intake/ exhaust)

Purely from discussions among the local drag racers and my own personal research. Let me explain my exact theory.

1. Don't use dry nitrous. Can't stress enough.
2. If you must use dry nitrous, use Venom.

Please keep in mind, guys, that my experiences with nitrous are not solely on rotaries. I have a whole other set of rules for piston engine use, in which I usually prefer dry nitrous (though I again typically use NOS brand dry). The (opinionated) rules I state on this forum are from experiences attempting to tune/install nitrous kits on rotaries only.

Understood, but that's why your experience is so important for us guys not wanting to toast our engines...So, NOS wet kit, huh?
