Next Mod on the 91 T2?.......

OK here's the scoop,I brought this car a little over a year ago. I had a DP, Turbo timer, catback, HKS intake, RB FCD, and 17" rims put on it a little after. I took it to the drag strip about 3 months ago and could only get low 15's(first timer). So a couple of weeks ago I took it to K&D Rotary and had all this installed and tuned-720cc secondary injectors, Autometer EGT, A/F, Boost gauges, air pump removed, straight pipe, e-fan, Profec-B, Apexi S-AFC, HKS SSBOV, and an FD fuel pump. I took it to the strip again a couple of weeks ago and could'nt get it to hook for nothing, even with 235/45/17s. I took out a newer mustang and a hooked up lumina(sounded like a hot rod) and still ran low 15's, they would get be at the light but I blew by them mid way. I'm trying to figure out what would be the next step without going the intercooler or turbo way. Anybody have any ideas?

Suspension. That's what you seem to be missing.

I already have that planned for after winter, thinking of Tein adjustables not sure what shocks yet. But I'm stuck at the next step for speed/engine mods.

Well, it sounds like you should consider a turbo upgrade... check out bnrsupercars.com

I was wondering about the ignition system. I've heard that it's a pretty good system, yet I still see rotary guys getting aftermarket distributors. Any thoughts , ideas on this. I do have problems getting it started, have to pump the gas fast to get it going.

I guess you could go with an MSD or a Jacobs Propak, but you might want to figure out why it's hard starting first.

you should be in the 13's.... you need to learn how to drive... it's not easy.

how much boost? 60' time? mph ??

get rid of your rims. they are probably pulling you down too. get some light 15 or 16" rims.

My fastest 60' was 2.285, I ran 15.3 at 92MPH, but that was before all the mods. after ,the best i could get was 2.687, 15.8 at 92MPH. I could'nt get them to hook and it was cold as hell that night. Now I'm still trying to find out if the aftermarket distributor is overkill, or if the stock ignition is a weak link.

You only have a straight pipe, n'est pa? You should get a downpipe or the turbo back exhaust from Racing Beat. That would add a lot of power.

Racing Beat downpipe(DP)..that's the first mod I have listed in the beginning, I still have the stock y pipe, but I have Maxspeed polished mufflers..big ones 5" outlet...looks aggressive. I would'nt think that the y pipe would choke the exhaust.

I would agree with scott, some light wheels, with sticky tires. Not to sound like an ***, but learning to drive well is really the best thing any sportscar driver can do. I would have the engine compression checked, before you blow all your money on a turbo upgrade.

that still is kind of a low trap speed....ah well. I'd agree with the others here just practice your driving. If you have the RB dp with presilencer...then you already have full exhuast. You should be way low 14's...but then again your trap speed doesn't show that.

i don't think his reaction time would have anything to do with it...

T2Tsunami: as long as your car is running strong, i'd just practice on the launches. try a run with the stock wheels although i don't think switching from 17's back to 16's would make a difference for more than .1-.2 of a second...good luck!

If reaction time had anything to do with it then I would be geting 8s inthe 1/8th mile. I got a 9.8 with a badly sliping cluch in my N/A at a 1sec reaction tiem

You don't have a distributor stock (you have a crank angle sensor). Installing a distributor would show little to no gains.

The stock ignition is more than ample for your mods. If you are really interested, throw a CDI box on the leading coil, some new wires (stock are fine), and a new set of plugs.

Get rid of the stock y. It is VERY restrictive.

You didn't mention your profec B settings (boost level)...?

When I picked the car up from K&D, dave said that my compression was a little low(should last for a year or two as long as I don't go racing alot, that's what he said)...damn shame..only have 72k on it. I was thinking of maybe rebuilding a spare motor for when it does go out. As for my reaction time..one word, SHITTY. I just could'nt get the lights timed right..my fastest was .880 and my longest was 1.228( must have been daydreaming about doing wheelies). I do need alot of practice on my timing and launches. As for my boost settings...low is set for 8.5 and high is set for 10.

I would have to say you probally should be saving for a new engine. Its not worth spending any more money on mods for an engine not completely up to par. After a new engine I would definately just go with a bigger turbo and a FMIC. Along with that you'll need a new fuel pump, larger injectors and an AFC which I see you all have. Let me know if you need any help. If you want any more work done give me a hollar. I dont think there is anything that I haven't done to these cars that I cant handle, maybe I can save ya a couple of bucks.

My vacuum runs around 20, where does everyone else's run at?. On the engine subject....would anyone out there know the price/performance difference between buying a new engine and rebuilding your own(probably with a streetable port)?.

I tried everywhere from 4-6 thou. rpms. but it was cold that night so i could'nt get any grip, I think I might try to feather the clutch instead of dumping it the next time. It's a new stage 2 clutch from BNR, so it's gripping good.
