Talking newbie

Hello. I'm new to the forum and to having an rx-7. My fiance and I just bought a 1986 rx-7 from a guy locally who was the original owner. We got it for a great deal, $1500. I had fun driving it home and I know we will have fun working on it. Hope to get to know more people locally who have rx7's We live in the DFW Texas area.

Thanks!

Heather

Oh and this thread would be worthless without pics right?

Hey, nice looking 7 you got there. Looks a lot like mine, except I have the 88 tii. Welcome to the club. Also, go ahead and buy some headache medicine.

I'm not sure where I read it, I think someones sig, but I like to pass on this advice as it is sooo true. "Rotaries could leak oil out of the tires if they really wanted to."

Thanks guys I'm not sure what we are going to do with it first, but I know we want to make it faster eventually. We have an 88 supra that has a completely rebuilt JDM 7mgte with a t70 turbo setup on it already that is nearly finished...it's always good to finish one car before starting another I've done a couple little cosmetic things to the family car (the aveo) and the mustang is still back in alabama, where hes from, with a 5.0 swap in it...still needs electrical work. Projects are fun but expensive!

How many DFW people are around?

Very true. Since I don't have a lot of money to invest in the 7, I've been trying to get rid of some weight. Trying to make it a little bit more responsive, although I don't really want go to race car bare interior. It's always tough trying to choose what goes and what stays.

Yeah, it's hard when all of the cars you own are in some stage of being a project haha. Then you have to think about bills and all that.

Welcome. Look around under the hood and you may find lots of things to start with in the area of maintenance. Pull the wheels off and check out brakes (lube sliders, free up pistons), shocks leaking, etc., suspension bushings, and other chassis things. Then you can look into things like the 4-piston front calipers, 5-bolt swap, LSD differential that only the GXL, TurboII, or Convertible models have. The conv. wheels are very light (and pretty), a lot of people like the TII mirrors and S5 taillights (also front and rear bumper) as far as exterior is concerned. Study the stickies and archives in this section and you'll know more than the majority in a few days.
