New to turbo, what do I need now
Well, this thread has definitely answered a few of my questions, and has helped me to understand some things. Now, somebody said to not put the FCD on until you port the wastegate. Is that just a general rule, or is it for upgraded boost/something. I've got a freeflow exhaust with boost levels up to 6.5-7 lbs, and I don't get any boost creep. I also have the FCD installed. now does that mean my wastegate is ported, or am I just on the line of too far?

You just run the risk of running to much boost. Do you have an aftermarket guage?
You must remove the turbo to port the wastegate. You should do this mod!
Doesn't look like anyone answered your question about detonation, but it's when you run lean. Not enough fuel, and to much spark. I'm not really sure what happens in the combustion chamber, but common sense says it ain't good. Of course, I've had the week off from college and I've seemed to **** everything I knew down the toilet so I may be entirely wrong. Hopefully someone else will chime in and edumakate me.
I might do it when I get my engine rebuilt, have him remove my turbo and port it for me. God, I'm looking at 4k for this. Damned rebuild+streetport+wastegate port.
About detonation:
BAD BAD BAD on these cars. Detonation is not when you downshift too fast, detonation is when you run too lean and there is a literal explosion in the combustion chamber counter to the motion of the rotor. You can imagine the destruction. Rotors rotate one way, then BOOM are given force in the opposite direction. Bad news. Don't run lean.... for your turbo's sake.... for your side seals sake..... for your rotors sake..... just don't do it.

I plan on doing the mod sometime. Trying to look through the FCD to find out how to remove the turbo, but...I found out how to remove my engine, but that's it \=

and it still aint here lolThanks for the help about BNR. I will look into that also. Again, thanks for the wealth of info peeps. Solid.....
Are you kidding? He installed a blown swap? I think you have a legal right to seek a resolution. Didn't you just say two posts ago that he rebuilt it? Hope you have a detailed receipt.
I mean really, mechanics is a shady business, because you can't see whats in your motor, unless you buy or have work performed by a reputable business/mechanic that has been know to do great work, still gotta watch them suckers... they just see $$$.
It just goes to say 'if you want something done right, do it yourself.'
GET YOUR MONEY BACK IF THEY DONT FIX YOUR CAR!! GET THEM TO PAY TO FIX IT! MAYBE TALK WITH A LAWER!! OR BURN THEM DOWN! (either they're rep. or they're shop)
I work at a shop now and we strive to try and make things easier for customers. We're fair and all of that ****.
But I agree that you gotta research, otherwise it's your own fault for trusting a shop that has been known to be shady. Just don't assume all mechanics are "suckers" who only care about money.
Yeah...and how many people post retarded questions when they're doing it themselves. **** half of the 'custom' work or half of the swaps I've seen are person are garbage.
