new to turbo lingo.....need help!
ok ..... just turbo'd my 91.... (full t2 conversion front to rear)... anyways, i read almost everythread that has to do w/ turbos... but not sure exactly what you mean w/ some terms....here they are!
-boost spike???
-boost creep??
-boost pressure "pill"
thats all i can think of right now.......i know nothing of turbos.....so ,any tips or tricks or things to be cautious of would be of great help..... its a 88' turbo motor and drivetrain in my 91 .... i know the wastegates and turbos are different from s4 to s5, so ,thought you would need to know what mine is

boost creep is relatively the same thing as boost spike. with the stock wastegate being to small to really do any good if you have alot of mods on your car and an fcd (fuel cut defence) then basically whats going to happen is you will get 10psi witch is great however when you get into 3rd gear and on you boost will creep past 10psi and on to 14, 15 etc... what a spike is is when it skips the hole creeping to 15psi or more and just hitts 15 reall fast just pretty much instantanious and that also is not good for your engine at all! especially if you don't have the mods however as another forum member was telling me even if you do have a bigger fuel pump and injectors the stock fuel pressure regulator is not a rising rate and even if you where to get the rising rate fuel pressure regulator it could not keep up as fast as a boost spike happens. So what you need to do if you plan on getting alot of mods is take your turbo off (I know this would have been nice to know before you put the turbo motor in but oh well) and make that hole for the wastegate alot bigger (even bigger than the flapper) then once you make it that big you can weld another flapper on and vouala no more boost creep or spike. Do some searches and I believe nzconvertables pictures he posted of his before and after of his wastegate porting is in the sticky section. Good luck! The resister pellet is just a small pellet that you can put in the line right before the engine manifold in the vacuum hose that leads to the boost sensor. This some people seem to think is needed however most of the time is not.

thanks alot for the help....... thats explains alot! so what if i buy a turbo w/ an external wastegate??? would i have to worry about boost spike then??? oh....also... if i were to put a large turbo w/ external wastegate on my car, but keep the boost @ stock levels, would it affect smog???? or would i have to put all the factory equipment back on when smogging the car????
