Normally there is a 90 day warrenty on Mazda factory parts (although I provide a 180 warrenty on my rebuilt wiper switches).

well if the switch is bad with less than 90 days on it, take it back. If it is more than 90 days then you will need to have it rebuilt.

Typically the relay in the switch fails.

It is either that or a bad wiper motor but that is pretty rare.

If it is the switch and you are out of warrenty I can rebuild the switch for you... or you can rebuild it yourself...again check out my website for pricing and information.

Also, some time bad elctrical problems may cause shorts, when i was having a problem with my lights, i bought 2 new switches and after a day both burned out. I had to get a brand new wiring harness to solve the problem

As I have posted countless times:
You can't plug in a good light switch to a bad light switch harness or it will smoke the good light switch as well.
