New solution for FD UIM to FC adapter
Someone finally picked up where Rising RPM left off. Company is called SP Engineering, I can only find their products on eBay (can't post the link, but you can search). Their adapter uses eccentric bolts to adapt for both S4 and S5 LIM patterns. I have no purchased so I am not vouching for the quality, merely making everyone aware since the demand seemed very high once Rising RPM shut down.

Where does this plug go?
SPENG Products :: Import :: Mazda RX7 & Rotary :: S4 & S5 T2 :: Mazda 13b FC series 4/5 lower intake manifold to S6 upper intake manifold

SPENG Engineering is the name. I talked to the owner on Facebook for a bit. He seemed like a nice guy. He told me that they based their manifold adapter exactly on the specs of the Rising RPM adapter and was actually looking for the original owner of Rising RPM to get in contact with him about compensation for using his product as a basis for their adapter. So if any of you guys have the OG owner of Rising RPM's contact info shoot SPENG a message and let them know.
I know I'll be using SPENG when I piece together my UIM setup.

Seems that way. Doesn't look universal tho. Looks like a replacement for the stock plastic piece to me. What would be the point?
I have been drinking. Maybe I missed something.

Ah, I just noticed the stepped portion of the adapter. I thought it was just the OEM piece being machined out of aluminum without the center portion.
Like I said, I've been drinking.

if its the one i have seen he needs to adjust the dimensions of the runners a little. the spacer is larger than both the LIM port and UIM ports, so you have to port the runners to match and not the other way around. that noted, airflow doesn't work as well when you have a stepped bowl in the middle of the path.

I saw rising rpm design for the spacer and it was cool because anyone would bolt it up in their garage. The intake manifold bolts dont need a ton of torque, but I didnt like how the bolts would be tightened down, the offset ones. I decided on having the bolt holes made for the s5 t2 lim, and having the s6 uim holes milled to match with a little material taken off for clearance with some allen head bolts

I purchased one and it is in the possession of my hot little hands as we speak. I had posted about this before I purchased mine about a month ago, but mods thought it'd be cool to just delete my thread all together FML.
In any case, fairly good quality, I went with the raw finish and it looks really good. It's a bit scratched up probably due to manufacturing/inventory transferring, but I can't complain. I was looking into helping set up a group buy, but as driftxsequence said there are many horror stories linked to this Darian character, so things ended up not working out as I wanted to implement some strict rules/processes. PremiumRice I believe also posted something about this company's previous history in my original thread, but I can't recall for sure since the thread is long gone.
I will be looking to test fit this part hopefully on Sunday since my engine is all torn apart thanks to a blown apex seal, but I have a buddy who has a Rising RPM adapter and they look almost identical, down to some of the paths used for tooling/machining. The eccentric studs are a bit different, the Rising RPM ones consisted of male-to-male hardware, but this one uses a male-to-female set up. Should work the same though.
This is kind of on a side note but I will be hoping to do some back to back testing comparing the S4 TII UIM to the FD UIM, sometime early next year. I have only seen solid evidence once before from a guy in Europe I believe and the FD mani really gains some power in the mid-range while providing the same peak power figures.
But just my $.02, if anyone is looking to purchase this thing, it should definitely perform as advertised I would simply recommend purchasing through PayPal to give you some protection.

I hate to admit it, but I took a gamble and placed an order on his site a week or two ago. VISA is good with chargebacks, so I'm not terribly concerned.

Figured that would happen he seemed like a really shady character. Funny thing is that I have a CAD model put together to make this adapter a while back. The machine shop I was working with just came in way too high to mass produce it for the rx7 community. They wanted something like $350 a part. Let me know if you receive the part.

I was having a friend help me make the adapter, but he had proven to take a long time. I guess there isn't much motivation for people to make it to sell 20 sets at a low enough cost for fc people to afford. In thinking I should have just made it myself, which would have taken a real long time

How much is having a perfectly smooth transition worth it? I planning on just porting the runners to match as close as possible redrilling the mounting holes and calling it a day. Ill fill up the void bolt space with jb weld.
All the FD intake is really good for, (for me at least) is the TPS.

Just an update to anyone interested:
After a month of no shipment and no ticket response via website, I contacted SPENG by phone. Much to my surprise, Darin returned my call within a few minutes. He claimed that they were having some technical issues with their site and sales/tickets were not being populated. He pulled up my order, packaged, and created a shipping label while still on the phone. Sure enough package was in transit within a few hours. I have not physically received the adapter yet, but will report back when it does.
Perhaps there is still hope for this company, despite the rough background/reputation it has acquired. Darin was very nice and made an effort to correct the issue. If everything arrives well, I'd say place an order and give him a call if it doesn't ship within a day. He said he had plenty in stock.

Reaction Racing in Japan make a much better quality adapter with perfect port matching. The kit comes with everything, including gaskets for both sides.
I bought one through an purchasing agent and had it shipped to Australia. Cost was the equivalent of US$280 delivered, but a lot of this was taken up by fees charged by the handling agent and shipping.
The product is illustrated here: RX-7 Specialty Parts Online Shop - Auto-Style USA - Japan Car Parts JDM Parts
I wouldn't go by that price though. I'm sure you can get a better deal through a JDM supplier in the US who orders directly from the manufacturer.

Finally managed to try this thing out. I'll make this short and simple in regards to my thoughts on it and the quality of the part:
- Ports are near perfect, small machining blemishes can be seen within the runner area but nothing major. Nothing to worry about unless you are the type that extrude hones their stock cast manifolds.
- Finish is superb, I initially was under the impression that these came polished, but Darin from SP informed me that this is a raw finish.
- Small dings were present on the outer surfaces of the adapter, better handling should be implemented during mfg. process, but I've seen worse.
- Eccentric hardware was not machined well, the threads on the stud portion of 2 of the 4 eccentric adapters were not fully cut. This forced me to finish up the threads with a die, not a major deal but it's something that should be caught in QA.
- Eccentric hardware is not labeled, thus allowing for easy confusion and makes it a hassle to find out what hardware will be used and what holes they will be going in. This also makes it extra difficult to know which way the adapters will be oriented.
- Bolt hardware that is included to bolt down the FD UIM to the eccentric hardware, once the adapter is in place, is made out of a nice stainless material and is a SHCS type.
- Long bolt that sits in the middle of the manifold, although it is a SHCS, is not stainless. Simply comes in a black oxide finish.
I think that pretty much does it. I wouldn't be able to point out any real flaws with this product beyond the few issues I noted above, although things like 1/8" NPT ports (for nitrous, etc.) and the inclusion of PTFE gaskets could be a definite plus, but these things would merely be of luxury.
