NEW S4!!! what am I forgetting?

I just picked up a 86 GXL!!! WOOT! Anyway it's a new car and I can't be sure of any of the previous work that's been done on it, so I'm going to give it the full bore tune up. It's got brand new belts on it, and new radiator hoses, so here is the plan so far:

RB Street wire spark plug wire set.
NGK platinum stock replacement spark plugs
OEM fuel filter
any special kind of oil/oil filters recomended?
should I replace the stock fuel pump? She has 170k on her.
LSD fluid? I'm planning on abuising it.

oh yeah, other pertinent info. The motor has 7k on a factory rebuild.

Thermostat, Heater hoses, Transmission oil, Brake pads, Ignition timing, TPS adjustment.

I use Castrol oil with a Mobil1 filter.

Thermo: that rases a good point, it only went about 1/4 of the way up the guage after 30mins on the freeway, any chance of a colder thermostat?

Tranny oil same question as the LSD fluid what is recomended? Redline?

brakes are good, pleny of pad, I'll have to search on the Ignition timing(how to do it) TPS adjustment? The thing idles like a dream... any need to mess with it?

Well... you check timing just like you do on a piston engine, with a timing light.

Always check the TPS when you buy a new FC, it can be slightly out of spec and the car will still behave fine.

If you feel like getting into the car, you can drop the catalytic converters and check to see if they are clogged. They probably are. You can check the 6-ports for operation too, though they'll probably be fine on a low mile rebuild.

awesome, I'll check the timing and TPS first thing in the morning. No worries about the cats though. They are long gone. It came with a FULL RB exhuast system. Header, Pre-silencer, cat-back the works. I just need to make sure the 5 and 6 are wired open, although it feels like they are...

Premix!! For the love of god premix! Well actually since you have a S4 you're not in a lot of risk, but according to the Rotary mechanics on this forum, premixing is the way to go!

Why would you wire the 5th and 6th ports open? To the best of my knowledge that just kills low-end power unless you really have a beast of a build.

I would go with k&n filter replacement because not only is it good for performance but its easier for your car to breath, in return it's better for your engine!

Wiring the 5/6 th does kill low end due to the extra air but he said he has a RB system.

Unless he got the presilncer with the air pick up tube he has no way of actuating the ports because you need like 3 psi of back pressure to make them work on S4's.

:Edit:
Oh yeah The thermostat is fine. 1/4 up the gauage is perfect.

Check the Coolant hose going from the engine to the fire wall which is under the oil filter. This is known to corrode and leak. This almost cost me an engine one time.

Maybe get an upgraded radiator(aluminum) to help keep the temps down. A colder thermostat is just a bandaid fix. A radiator will remove the extra heat.

Maybe change the o rings under your oil filter pedasal since they like to leak and give a big greasy mess on the drivers side.(2 10mm nuts under the filter)

Change Tranny fluid and rearend fluid(remember to add LSD additive to the rearend)

Maybe change alternator

Check brake rotors and pads.

Have fun!
