New to no pistons

This is my first post and I just wanted to say hi. I've been collecting and building old Z cars for quite a while and now just got my 88 gen 2 a couple days ago. but just wanted to say to everyone and say that I love the car already. The next project is getting the thing boosted

Why not just buy a TII and start off with boost?

Welcome, whatever flavor rex you have! Since you are new to the car, but not cars, just spend a few days reading about general stuff about the driveline then you'll know your next set of questions!

1st tip, don't ever try to speedshift a Mazda tranny, it is the weak link in the car.

Enjoy the rev's

FAQ & search for all your needs.
For example, the FAQ will tell you that putting a turbo on an NA is a serious project with lots of custom fab work. You're usually better off buying a turbo car or dropping an entire turbo engine into your NA.

As for power & handling upgrades, they're the same as your Z with these exceptions (search): "5th and 6th ports", "VDI", "DTSS", "street port"

Yeah I noticed the trannys are a little slow. Yeah I didn't buy a TT because I didn't find one for sale...anyways thanks for the quick replies. I've been looking at the possible upgrades for these and I already have tons of questions. For now its just keeping it N/A and getting what I can out of that. I'm sure there is a post on how to get power from an N/A. Thanks again for your feedback.

Hi, welcome to this great bible of RX7s

First off, dont spend any money on NA engines. What you will gain compared to cost versus the cost of going to a TII swap is not worth it. You are better off saving up for a TII swap. An NA will always stay slow unless you crack the engine open.
If you want it to stay NA for a while I suggest you go with suspension upgrades, wheels, bushings and stuff like that. DOnt spend to much on the engine.

My 2 cents.

And have fun! Brrrrraaaaaapppppp!
