new, and need help badly

i am new to this whole rotary thing. i had an fc basically given to me it was about to go to a junk yard and i wanted to save it. i have no clue what i am doing but if anyone has had anything like this any help would be nice. ok its a 1987 FC3S 13b injected, it has no exhaust from cat back ( this problem is self explaintory). It always stalls out wont say running. ideals around 2500 when she does idle. she never gets hot or my temp gauge doesn't work i think its the later. i also have no power, i have to keep it floored to get it to move even in first gear. so if any one knows anything i could check out look at or had anything like this problem

major tuning... and as far as keeping it floored i would imagine that the clutch is slipping on it...i mean you cant expect to much out of it if it was head to a junk yard right???

i know i can't expect much but i got it as project car and well just wanting to know where to start. an the cluch isn't slipping i can tell that it just has not power. its getting fuel. got a new fuel pump in it cause well it needed that so i didn't have to pay to tow it to my house and acutally the fule pump and gas was cheaper then towing it the 22 miles to my house so it all worked out. come to think of it when i checked the plugs the ones closest ( well not all to up on the the rotary jargon ) to the radiator are like new and the ones closed the the firewall look as if they have been in there since the day the car was made i did put new plugs and wires in so do i have an ignition problem or is air/fuel getting to that part of the engine?

Poor idle could be alot of things. The first thing to check is the compression on a car that was headed to the junk yard. Then vacuum leaks and loose plugs.

is it an auto or std? and i am new to the rotary scheme still yet a little bit but i am learning quite a bit. i do know one of the best things to do tho when you got spark plugs is changin them all at the same time so you know that you have a good spark reguardless and you can pretty well guess that they will all go about the same time( i know im stupid for sayin that but o well) i am still learning on the engine portion so not sure about the idle...i know on my stepdads 86 it idles at about 2k 2.5k for like a sec or 2 and then settles to about 1k or just below. And how can you tell the clutch isnt slipping...I have driven cars where the clutch slips and seems like no power and everything....just a thought tho... Anyway, i am still working on getting my stepdads 86 and im going to do a conversion on it(ya ya ice i know)going to a tii but i was gonna replace the engine anyway. (Quick question guys, it smokes at high revs and stepdad says that the rubber shems on the rotars are bad new engine or fix it?)

Compression check it first, it's the only way to know if you need to tear it apart or not, otherwise it could be dirty/clogged injectors, vacuum leaks, all sorts of things.

i know the clutch isn't sliping because i can have it florred in neutral and only get up to about 4 grand and not much more. sometime it will go to 5 but that is rare. all plugs were replaced at the same time along with wires, new air filter and oil filter and oil change, a long with radiator flush. and it is a standard. i think at one point it had a turbo on it because there all these extra mounting points for bolts that are no longer there

Yea it could be a shitload of things. I'll give you a list

-Clogged fuel filter
-Bad injectors/dirty
-Horrible compression
-Clogged air filter
-Vacuum line leak(s)

First thing I would do if I got this car, would be compression. If that checks out, then what im about to tell you will be totally worth it.
Complete fuel system rebuild+ timing adjustment + intake modifications

Its not that hard, just time consuming and it might set you back about 100$ maybe more, depending on how good of a job you want to do.
Basically it involves removing the upper and lower intake manifolds along with the TB and dynamic chamber. You'll be cleaning all of those parts thoroughly and you'll also be removing emissions during the process, if you need emissions then it will cost more $. You'll need new gaskets, block off plates, vacume hose line, and new high pressure fuel hose and a nice big bottle of engine degreaser

I can go into more detail if your still ineterested in knowing how to do it all.

It sounds like you still have a cat. Make sure it's not clogged up horribly.

Do a compression check first though. It sure sounds like a dead chamber.

I drove a 12a once running on 1/2, and wide *** open, it would only do about 40.

Do a search on it, its easy.

Also, if you have access to a printer, print out the the fuel and emissions/engine areas of the FSM (factory service manual).

You can find it at www.iluvmyrx7.com

I'll give you a detailed writeup on it tomorrow.

i haven't had much time as of late sorry this took so long. i would just like to take a moment to thank everybody again for the help. i did a compression check and found the problem apex seals on the way out, with no exhaust compounding the problem, got my ignition fixed and have the intake off as of now. hope to have it all running in about a month or so will post pics then. Thanks again. May the road be good to you all.

How do you know its bad apex seals?

you should do a decarb, use some TB cleaner, and spray it into one of the vac lines on the LIM with the engine at about 3000rpm. Then do your compression test after the can is empty.
