New motor, runs great, alot of smoke ???

Well as you all probably know, the motor in my 88GTU blew a few weeks ago. Well, i took my happy *** to the J yard and got a replacement for ~140 bucks and slaped that peice in, in a matter of days. Well, for the first few tanks of gas i ran the OMP and some mild premix just to be on the safe side and it smoked, which i thought was fine bc i was running plenty of oil through the bastard, well, i have since stoped the premix for a tank or so.. and.. its still smoking, just as bad even. This is starting to worry me b/c my freind told me that his motor started to smoke bad right before it blew, any one have a take on this? the compression was 90/90 when i checked it in the J yard. Well, thanks again everyone. Oh BTW, i used all of my components on the new block all the way down to the water pump even, i just striped it down and slaped all my junk from my block on this.

How did you do a compression check in the Junk yard. Why was the car you pulled the engine from in a junk yard? I hope there was extensive body damage. If not it may have been in the junk yard for a reason. Old POS car with an engine that smokes like hell.

The car still had the trans in it and happened to have the keys, so my bitch nuts *** just pluged up my bat and then did the test. It was wrecked man, im not that ******* stupid. Still puzzled about the smoke though . Oh yeah, i have some MMO in the oil, but i doubt that could be the problem, the only think i could think of is if the MMO smokes like a ***** when the oil noozles spray the oil and it gets burned..hhm.. Thanks again guys

alot when the engine is cold, more than when its warm and usually only when i "get on it" and the let off. Like ill rev it up and let off, it'll do the infamous rotary "pop pop pop" sometimes bark a flame and then smoke for about 30-45seconds at idle after that, smokes ALOT when that happens. just running normal and things it doesnt smoke at all or much if it does. Thanks

I don't wanna scare you or give any bad advice. I have an idea of what it could be, but not 100% sure.

if it is running fine, just give it a few more days and see if it continues.

No one has asked- What kind of smoke?? White, grey, black, blue...

Does it do it at all at WOT? Or just when it's let off?

My '86 RX-7 has 181,000 miles on it. It will smoke some at startup and driving till warmed up. The smoke is worse the lower the ambient temp. If it is cold 40°F out side a run to 5000RPM will produce a smoke screen. But I do the same at 90°F it dosn't smoke. You probally have a bum engine. Even though mine smokes it runs fine.

Well James, your post seems to be the only conforting one on here, the engine out of the car pulls nice, runs awsome, idles like a champ and doesnt have the rx7 "skip" at idle everyones used to, the only thing is... it smokes.. hm.. i guess ill just deal witht he smoke, its the worse on start up and not too bad when running it, Thanks for your time guys, oh BTW i didnt catch the mileage, i had like 25 mins to get the motor out and i had select tools so i rushed that **** to loaded it on the trailer, i can go back and find out though. Thanks

Sorry I didnt help much via IM, had too much to drink last nite... But I second this one !! Oil control rings, thats only thing that keep oil from the E shaft to the combustion part of the motor.. Just drive it Maybe it will get better ... ?

well, i drove the **** out of it today with a freind behind me, he said it only smoked when i started out, but when i was driving it didnt smoke. so.. i guess its getting slightly better, but, i agree with you guys, its that gay ring ****, oh well, its not really bad enough for a rebuild right now, im going to try to sell it ASAP anyways, hell, that was the whole reason for puting the motor in there in the first place, thanks guys
